lol - Yeah, baby! I have so arrived! Google love! Beats the guy wearing heels and screwing a Range Rover tailpipe that shows up when you type in my name...

Oh, wait. Dammit.

btw - how the hell did you discover that?

seijirou - I know - it kinda threw me a bit too. We're not entirely sure where peak torque is, but it's below the converter's flash stall speed by a good bit. I actually called Mike Sitar (the guy with the original twin M-90 blown supercoupe); he told me his SC was really twitchy about the throttle accel pump settings. A few percent off in either direction would cost him a tenth or two in 60' times. Unfortunately, the a/f does nothing unexpected on launch, but things change so fast on tip-in that it's hard to figure out. I think it's a little rich, but I'm just guessing.

With the supercharger being off to the side, does it affect the steering or braking in any way? Like diving to the right on braking or anything? I really want to do this to my 65 comet, but I still want to be able to corner smoothly.
Really nice work man! Of all the DIY supercharger stuff I've been looking at this is by far my favorite!

Jnew42 - Nah - no ill handling effects whatsoever. The blower's not super light, but it is lighter than, say, a large turbo, with all that cast iron. I'd estimate the blower to weigh in at under 20lbs. The front end of the car is substantially lighter than stock, by a good 150 or more lbs - battery in the trunk, aluminum heads, no a/c, lightweight radiator, smaller, more compact accessory bracketry, no cruise control, no emissions crap, etc. And thanks!

And now, it's time for "Alex's Super-Cool Product of the Month!"

And here it is:

WTF? Where's he going with this?

This one is really trick. Alum is typically used for crisping pickles. I don't make pickles. I am, however, not opposed to knocking out a unique device or two to assist me in my job. In this case, I needed a block of aluminum, with a slightly odd shape and five bolt holes, three of which were threaded for a camera rig for an upcoming shoot. After a bunch of idiotic adventures into stupid-land, I wound up breaking a 1/4-20 tap off in the last hole, after I was done tapping it, and trying to remove the tap. So I tried all the standard tricks - beating on it with an assortment of punches to break it up and remove it, drilling it out (and ruining two drill bits in the process), calling it names, whispering sweet nothings to it, etc.

So finally I decided chemistry was my friend. I found a few references on line where people swore that a warmed and concentrated mixture of alum and water would dissolve high carbon steel and leave the aluminum untouched. So I tried it. And it worked. It took about 16 hours, but dadgummit, the tap was gone and the aluminum was unscathed! How freakin' cool is that?

Now you know. Sot the next time you have a bolt or something broken off in an aluminum piece, give it a shot. And become your own personal hero.

Wow, that's pretty freakin' amazing.

Yeah - ain't it? Even more amazing - Safeway has a "buy-two-get-one-free" sale on Alum right now. You know I got me some alum, baby.

lol, I want to try it just to see a hunk of metal disappear.

Update!

Due to work and other crises of life that come with being almost 40, the car has become:

A 10 second cat stand.

Considering how hot it's been outside, I really don't feel I've missed much. I still haven't had an opportunity to install the HPM megabite jrs, either. In a perfect world, come fall and cooler weather, it'll have megabites, a re-worked baffle in the gas tank so I don't have to run as much fuel, and some minor weight reduction from the doors (along with a fixed driver's side power window motor - the dumb plastic gear inside broke).

I've also had an opportunity to check out an M122 powered fox - that of "MightyJoYoung" here on the corral. He's one of the few people that actually got the setup to work. And with his crazy pulley setup, it works quite well. He makes more boost than I do. I'd love to see some track times from that beast.

That cat reminds me...

What purpose does that cat food can serve?

lol - that's just Lucy, our Maine **** rescue. She's got the heart of a saint, the soul of a lion and the brains of a cabbage. Well, not really. But you should see the hairballs that thing generates.

Now that work and other nonsense is achieving some sort of bizzaro cruising altitude (some guy out west wants us to chronicle his impending demise in feature film format in a 60's era slingshot powered by a 3,500 hp 417 Donovan Hemi and I just spent some quality time with the Orlando Magic's ridiculous mascot "Stuff the Magic Dragon" in Orlando - did I mention I love my job?), I find my thoughts are drifting back to the car. And donating some time and services to creating a PSA for ARC because I want to (ARC was formally known as the association for retarded citizens - no cracks, please - I'm quite serious).

Anyway, now that it's no longer hotter than a fat man's sweaty balls in full sprint wearing corduroys in Death Valley, I'm starting to consider what I can reasonably accomplish in time for the cooler upcoming fall weather to get me to a sub 10.50 pass at 130 + mph. There's the easy option - bump the timing to 25 degrees and fill it with c16. Or I can give it the all-american try to do all the little things I've been planning - but at the very least, we'll see the Megabites go on, a little tuning on the throttle accel pump and 27x9 QTPs.

I've got to go back and check the DA on the best pass. Any and all (not completely stupid) ideas welcome. Stupid ideas will receive special acknowledgement and completely stupid ideas will also receive a fancy "participant" ribbon made from prune-flavored edible panties once worn by Mama Cass.

Christ, I'm on fire tonight...

Nah - I'm going to leave it alone until I have to pull the tranny for other issues. It blows through the converter in first and second, but with 3rd gear locked up, it's probably not costing me as much ET as I originally thought.

I heard through the grapevine that...

Perhaps he'll trade a break on production cost for a Will modification, naming you as inheritor of one 3,500hp 417 Donovan Hemi.

This is the guy:

go to "Armageddon top fuel." What the hell would I do with one of those Donovans? Put it in my lawnmower? How about a Vespa. Where do you even buy nitro?

This is called procrastinating. See the attached frames for some more procrastinating.

Critically analyzing video tap playback of a scene with an NBA mascot (that's me in the chair); and then some screen grabs of the scene we were looking at. If it hasn't started running yet, it will soon. If you live in Florida and you watch sports, you'll see it. Now you know too much. I have to have my people kill your people over a lunch of pellegrino and tapas.

No idea where to buy nitro, but what do with one? Stuff it any way any how in whatever you want, figure out the nitro thing, and then go fast!!

lol - maybe. sometime ago, i made the decision that when I get old and feeble, I'm gonna build (or buy) a fuel altered (nanook, anyone?) and shed my mortal coil in a fiery inferno of mechanized violence. sounds like a great way to go.

can i find that commercial anywhere? looks funny////. Nitro--i'd do something re-filling it and end my life.
Boy i tell ya, when i get this 20 y/o and 17 y/o off, i'm gonna do some stupid irresponsible sh*t. I turned 41 last month--my mid life crisis will start soon and continue till death:blam:

I'm right behind you - 39 with a 7 year old. 11 more years until irresponsibility (and hilarity) can ensue!

The spot's gonna start running soon, if it hasn't already on Fox Sports. Once the run ends, I can put it up on my work site - which is starting to become in dire need of updating.

UUUUUUUUPPPPPPPDDDDDDDAAAAAATTTTTTTEEEEE!
(pronounced like: "GOOOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLL!")

Well, not all that much to get excited about. I went to the track to test the new Megabite Jrs. In short, the results are grossly inconclusive for a number of reasons - new track surface, wasted slicks, and failed bypass. The gory details are here:

http://forums.corral.net/forums/drag-racing/1381079-megabite-jrs-track-results-sort.html

But what you guys wanna know is what did it run with a permanently-open bypass with a D/A of almost 1,000 ft. The answer is 11.2 at 121 and change.

So over the weekend I pulled the failed electric bypass out, and with a little bit of fabwork, a Mini Cooper S bypass went in. Better throttle response, and the boost is back! (we'll see about heat with a little more seat time...) New tires are going on, cool air is coming, and hopefully new and better times!

The wires and the microswitch are left over from the old electric bypass. They're either getting pulled, or the blower's gonna get a little liquid intercooling. In the form of nitrous. Isn't the microswitch and the red LED of doom the hardest part of a nitrous install?

So that's where we are. And for our Southern/Gulf Coast brethren - be safe from Isaac!
