my 93 gt is optionless. Only thing it has is a/c an airbag, manual mirrors, manual windows, manual locks, no defroster, no hatch release, no fuel door opener

Optionless would be one without a/c. As I stated before, never seen a GT newer than 88 that came without it. Airbag was standard, not an option. There was no power fuel door release option on the 90-93 models. It was discontinued after the 89 model year. But the lack of power windorws, power locks and defroster and kind of unusual for a 93. I would be curious to see a pic of the door tag from that car as that shows some minor options.

There's a stripper LX on eBay right now that I'm drooling over. If I had space, I'd be seriously after it. This car needs to be stored and preserved as a future classic. No air, no PL/PW, no cruise... even looks like it has no rear defrost. Might have even been a radio delete car. Only for sure options I can see are the red striped body moldings and the 3.08 axle (although I think that was free in '88....?). Even the baby blue interior looks nice when it's that clean :)

I once looked at an '88 notch that was for sale that was truly a zero option car. Black with grey interior LX 5.0 with 5-speed. Unfortunately it was pretty doggy and rusty or I'd have bought it.

I have seen MANY pre 87 GT's with no options. It was actually quite common to see the 83-86's without power windows and locks and a/c. It was however not common to see an 87-93 optioned like that. Like I stated in a previous post, after doing this for over 15 years I have yet to see an 89-93 GT that came without a/c or power windows and locks. For some reason they made quite a few 87-88's like that.

Oh yea...mint original paint still! I am getting different rims..these are the 4-lug 94-97 Cobra style painted gray..but I want some Pony's or Pony R's maybe..Iam looking for suggestions actually..

Yea, I have a pic with the turbines on it now and it looks good too. 93 Cobra rims would be nice too. I'm not modding it out. exhaust and gears..thats it...and the steeda shifter. I have all stock parts anyways.

Showing my ignorance here, but why would a Mustang without any options be something special? Seems to me that it's a waste of a car. Many years ago when I was searching for mine I kept passing up GTs until I found one that was fully loaded, sans AOD. Had to be a GT, had to be a 5 speed, had to be two tone paint, had to be loaded. Even my 1983 Bronco was fully optioned with power locks, windows, rear defrost, AC, locking hood, underhood toolbox, underhood light with extension cord, etc. It didn't come with a stereo, but I picked one up a few months back. :)

Because it was unusual. Thats why. Most of the 87-93 5.0 cars came with typical options (air, radio, power windows and locks, cruise, defroster, hatch release, gas door release (87-89), tilt (87-89).
Some of the rarer options would be radio with equalizer (87 and 92 only), CD player (1993), million mile odometer (1993), leather seating on a hatch back car (90-93), T-tops (87-88), engine block heater (all years). I dont consider a sunroof a rare option as it seems that every other hatch back car had one.
The rarest deletes would a/c and/or radio. Usually if you find a car without cruise it also lacks the power windows, power locks, power hatch and power gas door as these were part of preferred equiptment packages. The deletion of a rear window defroster was typical of what DSO the car was ordered through as it was a mandatory option in many of the northern states and I have had and seen cars lacking the defroster only to have every other common option. During the 87-93 years, most options were not sold ala carte although I have seen cars with manual windows and power locks but you will never see one with power windows and no power locks. Just like you will never see a notch back with sport seats prior to 91 or a 90-93 notch with leather seating from the factory.

11 years ago a friend of mine had a black 88 GT with manual windows, manual locks, manual side view, no A/C, no defrost. The car was amazingly fast stock. Low 14's if I remember right, on street radials.

I don't get it either. However there are some people out there who prefer these delete options. Different strokes for different folks I guess. Rarity is a good thing, but rarity to me is 93 Cobra, Cobra Rs, SVOs, Saleens etc.. Not a Mustang with no AC.

A fair question...

My crack at the answer: The low option versions start to become "something special" as a performance type vehicle goes from being daily driver material to collectible material. I don't think most Fox Mustangs are there yet, but they're not far off. My '88 LX turned 20 in November...(but since I personally ordered it new, it's not a stripper :)). Buick GNs of the late 80s are already appreciating as collector cars.

When the car is your daily driver, sure, almost all of us would rather have the conveniences. We all know, though, that lighter cars are quicker, and options generally add weight. But we're typically willing to forego some quickness (and in most cases it really isn't very significant) for the creature comforts. That's why strippers are rare now.

But once buyers start looking at them as "collector cars", and they only go driving on nice days and special occasions (or in the case of some cars never -- they may just ride on trailers or sit forever in a collection), the conveniences aren't so important anymore. Collectors typically want the rarest and the quickest (in stock form -- and stock is important to collectors) of the breed -- which are the "strippers".

87 convertable, nothing

the only thing the car had when i bought it was fog lights. it has manual mindows front and rear. no defroster switch for the glass widow, and manual locks. and the stereo was stolen, and the manal top doesnt work

Not a GT but my 93 Notch came with a radio & air. Nothing else.

Strippers are king ! You usually see 87-88 (when you do see them)as far as 87-93s go.
I know someone that ordered an 88 Coupe new complete stripper with radio delete, but he traded it in the following year for a loaded coupe.

I also looked at a base 89 coupe am/fm radio and aod were the only options. The car even had vinyl seats.

Looked at an 88 Hatch 1 option , a sunroof! The car even had radio delete.

I just stripped an 89 Hatch with just sunroof and sport seats .Seats were standard in 89 1/2 5.0 s hatch cars but this was an early 89.
