Has anyone used this manifold with a regular height distributor on a 351W?
They say you need their low profile one but I'm doing a side mount TB. I saw in a magazine where someone installed a Holley 302 Hi Ram & side mount TB and ran a stock distributor, so I sent an email to Holley Tech and they said I could run a standard distributor with the side mount TB.
Then I see this on Engine Power and they show using a low profile one to fit under the overhang of the manifold, so it wouldn't matter if you had a side or front mount TB you would need a low profile distributor.

Just from the picture, it looks like you may be able to use the stock distributor... BUT, the intake may have to be removed in order to remove or install the distributor. This is just a wild guess from looking at the picture.

Well I got the Hi Ram yesterday with Holley's sheet metal top and it will NOT clear under my Cervini hood which i believe is a 2.5". Holley says their standard top will clear that hood and stock motor mounts. I'm bummed I guess I have to try the standard top now. Heres a comparison with a Victor 5.8 EFI which is sitting 1/4" higher that it would on the car and a Trick Flow.

that hi-ram looks bad ass!

can I ask what's the combo its going on?

why not get some drop mounts to buy you some room?

the fabricated upper is more compact than the cast, right?
by how much?
but uses ls throttle body?

any chance you would post some pics comparing it against the victor 5.8 efi as i'm running that intake?

Yeah the Hi Ram does look awesome with the fabricated upper! Its going on a 410w, and I have a Vortech supercharger for it. I do have some drop mounts just not sure if it will be enough. The fabricated top is more compact where the TB goes in length that's why I bought it thinking it should fit. But the way its designed its taller at the TB, thats where it's hitting. Any of the side mount uppers are available with the Ford TB opening, only the front mount TB you have to get a LS style. They claim the cast top will fit under the Cervini hood I have. So I guess I'll try it or get a 4" cowl hood which I didn't really want.

looks like the actual height difference is minimal (5.21 vs 5.02)
throttle body position is more compact on the fabed one vs cast

So looking at your pics of the 3 intakes i was looking at where my distrubutor is on the trickflow intake and it looks like it might clear on the holley high ram.it would be nice if it did because i really like the high ram.

Received the cast top yesterday and it fits but barely. I used play doh on top and had about 3/16" clearance but my hood is a little low to the fender so it can be raised a bit and I did get some modified drop motor mounts so it should be good. The throttle body is now at a good angle too. The Vortech tube is a little long now and is past the TB opening and will have to have to be shortened maybe a inch to line up.

is the intake the only change?
would love to see before and after numbers.
This is going to be a new build, the engine in the car now is toast. It was a 351 with AFR 185's, E cam, extrude honed Cobra intake, & a Vortech. Bad tune it went lean and a piston broke into a million pieces and broke the bottom the part of the cylinder wall, heads have bent valves etc.
I bought the car this way with it blown up, haven't pulled the engine yet just testing to see if the intake fits. I had no idea when I bought it that the engine was that bad, thought I was just going to rebuild it. I have been getting parts together over the past year and a half. I got the Edelbrock last year to run, then decided on the Holley. Changing the direction of the build 10 times so far! Putting in a 410W stroker now.;)

Ok great yeah just curious about the weight difference. Well since the dizzy wont fit i think if i switch intakes i will go with the super vic efi manifold. But yeah the holley hi ram looks pretty awesome.

No not yet. I sent the Holley back I keep changing my mind on an intake. I would like to get a sheetmetal one, I just posted to see if anyone had one for sale. I might just go with the Victor 5.8 EFI and have it ported. Supposed to get the oil pan delivered today. Just collecting parts at this time and changing my mind constantly on the build!
I also have a Saleen upper (same as the Vortech) but they don't make a lower for a 351W. I have the plates to put a 302 intake on a 351, or could get a truck lower which has oval ports and modify it to the 302 truck ports.
Heres a pic of my Hogan's sheetmetal on my 408 in one of my S351's. Problem is these are now almost $4K! Would love to have another!

those hogan units are work of art indeed. wonder when we'll start seeing 3D printed boxes, which should lower the pricing vs sheetmetal, or maybe i'm wrong.

either way, why not the super victor efi as you got the cubic inches and its a power adder combo?

ps what a problem to have... not one but two S351s ;)

Yeah I have it pretty tough!;)
Im contemplating the super Victor EFI, I remember seeing this video and thought if I get the Victor 5.8 EFI ported it would be better for a street car. I love torque and thought this would be a way to keep some vs. the Super Victor. Coast did a video of the Super Victor vs. Holley Hi Ram on a 408 I think N/A and they were pretty much equal if I remember right.

maybe tmoss will chime in and give us some feedback

my thinking is that a supercharged 410W is not gonna suffer from lack of torque and even losing some on the low end might help traction

which vortech are you gonna run with it?

In that dyno of a Super Vic and the Vic 5.8 EFI you see the classic trade off in runner length. Super Vic is going to carry the high hp. With a 410W and any decent gearing I wouldn't even worry about or consider a true "long runner" like the SM2 Holley, RPM2 or TFS-R, that's just me. For a mixed Street/Strip I'd probably choose an intake with a mid-length like the Vic 5.8 EFI, but definitely look at the boost curve. For track use - no question Super Vic all the way. In that test, I think the SV suffers less from no port work than the Vic 5.8 EFI.

99% of the time this will be under 6Krpm, just a fun street car. In the video up to 6K the Vic 5.8 EFI was better plus I already have it, and I have a TFSR not the box but i could get one. I showed this video because of how much HP it was making and how the Vic EFI can support it. I'll be nowhere near that kind of power. I agree that the SV suffers less from no port work than the Vic 5.8 EFI. The Vic 5.8 EFI ported would do even better than it did.
Personally I love the look of the Vic 5.8 EFI vs. the Super Vic. which is a plus for me not that it matters to anyone else. I like the SV look on a carb setup but not so much on a EFI.

Here's a pic of the Victor 5.8EFI lower with the Saleen upper sitting on it. Totally different bolt pattern, I wish it would bolt on though! I could switch them if I wanted.

Also the build is on hold again hopefully get going this winter on it. Instead of the 410W with a stock block and Vortech S trim, I now have a 427W Ford Racing shortblock, AFR 220's, and a YSI Vortech. (y) ;)
