Some cat keeps marking both our mustangs which have car covers on them. I put the car covers in the truck so that makes it worse when they stink. How can I keep these cats away? They like to climb on top of the car also and use the cover to sharpen their claws.

I have found that a small caliber rifle (.22) repels cats permanently. You could also try a bow and arrow approach if the firearm is too loud. Alternatively, you could put some cat food under the hood in the hopes that they would get caught in the sepentine belt when you start the car.

A more humane solution....go to any discount store and buy a bb pistol or rifle that shoots plastic bb's.....wait for the cat to touch the car, then let it have a sting. If you just randomly shoot em they'll probably get nervous and pee even more.:) I would wait for them to get near the car...sooner than later they'll learn car=pain and stop.

The night before trash day, before you go to bed, put out a plate with antifreeze and tuna. Get up early the next morning and make sure you bring a hefty bag with you.

Gap has the best idea, Just look out for the dogs. As said eariler, DOGS GOOD, CATS BAD.

I really prefer the 12 gauge pump shot gun with some #4 steel shot. Just don't hit your car.
They won't feel anything but a warm rush through their bodys before they move-on the next world.

Yes I would stick to something a little more humane then pumping them full of BB's and Lead....or Antifreeze for that matter...try amonia or a motion sensing light. I can see it now on the news...neighborhood pets wiped out from mysterious ailment...lol. Take care all...

I live in a rural area and we have quite a few coyotes. There are no cats but a lot of fat coyotes.

For those w/o benefit of coyotes, I recommend the following.

Borrow a common DC stick welder. Set the amperage at about 60 - 80 amps. Take one lead and clamp it to a metal bowl or plate. Set the bowl on a small piece of wood or other insulating material in the middle of a large flat piece of steel, aluminum, or metal hardware cloth and clamp the other lead onto the large conductor. Put food in the bowl. Listen for the howling later.

I did this once to discourage a dog from knocking over my metal garbage can and tearing up all the garbage every week. Next morning, all I found was dog sh!t splattered around the can. Never had the problem again.

I have a really bad cat problem at my house. I've actually witnessed the stray cat climbing up a car, starting on the back tire, and stracting and scraping its way all the way up the rear quarter panel to the roof of the car. I look at my car, and I have a ton of scratches in the exact same place I just saw this cat scratch on this other car. My convertible top has a ton of rips and cuts all over it, like they use it as one of those carpet covered scratch things at the pet store. Then I have dirty cat paw prints running down my windshield and on my hood.

Actually, I was planning on setting out a bowl of anti-freeze beside the rear tires this weekend. Is the tuna really needed?

C'mon, guys no need to kill cats. Poor things. :( (although it has occurred to me at times in the same situation).

Get a small bottle of really powerful citrus-scented (or orange, lemon, etc) air freshener, and spray it all around. Cats HATE the smell, and will avoid it. It's not unpleasant for humans either.

Works, guarantee it. May have to use a lot, tho.

Nah, I still think hand grenedes work better. Get the book 101 uses for a dead cat! Stay informed! Enquiring minds want to know!

Well, I like the TUna and antifreeze soltuion, this way none of your neighbors will call the cops while you're shooting cats, those pesky neighbors are always getting in the way of fun.

I second the idea that you get a dog! May I suggest a Chow Chow? Chows were born to seek and destroy cats, large rodents, and theives. Mine has defended my car against cats and prowlers faithfully. (Even woke me up once to inform me that I was about to get towed!) Works better than a perimeter sensor, and they love the sound of Cobras.

Pit Bull. Keeps away car thieves also.

Why do you guys keep saying that a dog is the solution? How would that be the solution? The car is in the driveway in front of the house. What am I supposed to do? Have a dog that roams around the neighborhood? We have a leash law here, and getting a dog is not the solution. I have an inside dog anyways, that raises holy hell anytime any sound is made outside.

This cat is probably a stray cat that is just spreading rabies around the neighborhood, and it has cost me a lot of money. My car as-is would be unsellable. I will have to replace the top, which can run over $1000, and the entire body needs to be repainted, which can run $1500-$2000. That cat is as good as dead.
