Guy at work sent me this off his 89gt that was sitting in storage for 10 years. He decided to get it out and was driving it and this happened not long after. Has gt40 heads e cam. So it's been apart.

Unless there is a gaping hole in that screen, its can enter the pump that way. The only other way is throwing it down the mouth of the oil filter adapter, which is ridiculous unless it came FROM the oil filter.
Large pieces can get "around" the screen. I had a piece of a broken valve spring wedge the oil pump gears and discovered that there is a gap where the screen meets the "hat".
I took a hammer and tapped the hat flush with the screen to close up the gap.
I was wondering if the hat had a issue. I never seen this engine in person. I would have disected the hat /screen if it where mine
I found him a 5.0 on fb with tw heads and +2cc pistons with valve reliefs. He bought it. He is going thru it now.
Think I have him talked into buzzing the heads some and I have a decent cam here .
