Im getting a new 331 shortblock and i want to know what accessories i can or should not use from my 302. Can i use the same ignition until i can afford a new one? Distributor? alternator? Those sort of things.

Why wouldn't the accessories work on your new motor?

Are you talking about things that need to be changed to handle the additional flow? Such as MAF, TB, headers, heads, intake, exhaust?

Im getting heads with it, same with cam. I plan on using my ported GT40 intake on it. The motor is getting blown also, guess i should have mentioned that.

Yes, i want to know what i cant and what i cant reuse. Wont the headers work? I plan on staying with my stock TB til i can get a 70mm. I guess i will need a pro-m MAF (77?)

Everything stock will bolt right on.

However...

If you're spending the coins to get stroked and blown, you need to make sure the engine can breath and exhale.

Sounds like 3" after cats and hi flow cats, along with 1 5/8" headers are in order, along with a 70 or 75mm tb, and maybe an 80mm pro-m (if they make such a thing).

What kind of blower? the usual s-trim?

(btw, I'm no expert in this crap, I'm just trying to help.)

you wont need 3" inch exhaust. a good flowing 2 1/2 will be fine, sure the 3" would help but lets not start tellin him things he really doesn't need. i'd recomend some BBK longtubes, a BBK Midpipe of choice, and some straight through mufflers like magnaflow or bassani. that'd get the job done.

what heads are you using? what cam?

everything you have will bolt right over as stated above, its the same block.

BTW, all other things being equal (if you change nothing else), I only gained 35rwhp from the swap or approx 10% power increase from the 10% increase in displacement--which was expected. That was with a lowered C/R and cam change to balance things out w/the blower (also was on stock cats!) Also, if accessories/bolt-ons are not changed, the engine will peak at a lower rpm--I peaked at 5300rpms on the 331 comapred to 5800 on the 302! (that intake is now for sale :) )...

Basically, you can actually end up w/hardly any power increase (<10rwhp), if the components are mismatched with the newer (larger) breathing capabilities, so some research is called for :) .

I'm getting all parts/install/tune at a deal. Money is a huge issue, so all this will be done with $5000, plus however much i can sell my tranny and heads off my cobra for. I already sold the tranny for $700. I'm going with the KB Flowzilla, planning to run 12-14 psi. I'm not sure if i will have the money for a bigger TB (unless i can get that at a good deal), so I will have to use the stock one.

Edelbrock heads, not sure on which ones exactly, i need to call him back and talk to him about it. I forget what cam it was, something like the XE...i believe he said 560/564(?) or so lift with 118 seperation.
Do you think it would be worth paying a little extra for AFR's?

As for exhaust, i'll use the stock headers for now (until i can get LT's) with a Dr. Gas o/r X and turbo (straight through) mufflers.

I'm hoping for over 550 hp and tq, what do you guys think?

Do i need to get a new ignition? Or will my stock one be fine for now? How much can i sell the stock heads for?

Yes. Going the extra buck on those items will help on the long run (room to grow)--but be aware, at >.525 lift on AFRs usually require a spring change too compared to the edel's (.575). Also, if you go AFRs you may need a different cam since they flow more on the exhaust side.
