i went to install my TKO on my 87 GT tonight. we got the tranny all bolted to the bellhousing and pushed up in, and when we went to attach to crossmember to the tranny mount, we noticed that the stock tranny mount was either too big, or the crossmember needed modified somehow. the problem is that we are almost 3/4"off fromn getting the crossmember to fit in exactly how it should.

i think i may just need a shorter tranny mount or something.

any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Corral!!

someone should have told u that u HAVE to modify your stock tranny crossmemeber for it to fit properly. U need to cut the mounts, slide them back , and re-tack weld them on. Simple 5 min job. U can make the cutz, bolt eveything together, asnd then drive somewhere to get it welded. The weight of the tranny will keep everything in place, no worries, good luck

Heck lots of people don't even retack the tubes. I did it on my C4 crossmember but I have not on my current one for the tko. No problems.:)

I am not sure what you mean by lining it up
The crossmember needs to be slid back as far as it will go on the tubes. I didn't reweld mine and no problems.

the crossmember isnt the problem though. the problem is that the transmission mount is too thick. when you even go to line the crossmember up, it pushes the top of the tranny case up and it hits the floor pan, and it isnt even pushed all the way up to where the crossmember mounts.

the mount seems to be almost 3/4" too thick

Something isn't right. Can you get any pics?

My aod crossmember worked mint with no mods

Like to help...Got pics?

A picture says a thousand words..........

did you get one of those polyurethane mounts? my buddy did an it was like 3/4 inch too tall...

it wouldnt fit at all

By the way guys, he said too high... which has nothign to do with the tranny crossmember sliding back and forth
