I am thinking of getting a set of Trick Flow Twisted Wedge heads and just need a little clarification here. I do know that the rocker setup is stud mount, so I need to get new rockers. I also know that I need longer pushrods... but which ones? Will the stock valve covers fit on these heads with those rockers, or will I need taller covers?

Obviously I am going to need to grind out the inside since you say I need grinding on my valve covers. Does anyone know a good shortcut or anything? Any tips or tricks to this? How can there be two different pushrod lengths? Is there any advantage to the slightly longer vs. the shorter? I just don't get how there can be two different lengths that will work.

He's saying that you might need a set of 6.7s, or a set of 6.75s as they're the most common. You'll have to check your setup to be sure. I didn't do that the first time, and now here I am sending my TFS heads to get repaired shortly.

guys he is talking about the Street Heat (high port) head which is an inline valve head.. NOT twisted wedge.. therefore valvetrain geometry is going to be different and pushrod lengths may not be the same.

once again, i refer to my technical guy at truck flow, artie, who will be your best bet: akakiou@trickflow.com

Slight casting variances, differences in deck heights, gasket thicknesses, etc can necessitate the different length pushrods. You really have to measure to be sure what you need.

On the covers, I read where a guy spray painted the inside of his covers, then installed them and let the rockers gently scratch them to show where he needed to grind. Pretty good idea, I guess. Dunno if it would be dangerous to have paint chips floating around in there or not.

Oops, sorry, I do mean the Twisted Wedge... not the street heat. Sorry about that one... thought they were the same thing, guess not.

be careful when tightening them down. I tightened mine and was going to do the same thing.. just rotate the engine by hand until it hit and see where it hit, but in the process of tightening it cracked the (factory) valve cover on the baffle. i didnt even feel resistance then saw the cover crack. lil JB weld (temporarially) and grinding that baffle out and it was all good.. using stock covers with 1.6 Ford RRs on TW heads right now.

I would assume you didn't take pic's of where you needed to grind them down, but where were the big important spots that needed to be grinded?

its really easy to see. just take a cutoff wheel and in the pass. side valve cover, after you unscrew that baffle, grind off the little panels that it screws to. basically make them flush with the rest of the valve cover (sorry no pics)

Okay, so just make the baffle mounting posts dissapear to make the valve cover flush on the inside. Is that the only modification you needed to make to make them fit? What do I do for a baffle now?

i have also heard people say that you can make the later valve covors , fit , but the earlier ones cannot. are there any difference in the valve covors for 87 to 93 mustangs? i always thought they were the same.

that's it.

as far as a baffle, i didnt install one and im not having problems with oil consumption or oil in the intake, so im not too concerned about it. been like that for a year.

Only reason that I would be concerned about not having a baffle in there is because I know of people who have been lazy and not put one in after a rocker arm installation and at high RPM's, they eat oil like crazy because of all of the vacume and oil splash off of the rocker arms. I think that I would want one, but I don't know, just prety sure that it would be at least somewhat of a problem. I don't feel like caking up my intake because of no oil baffle.

With the Twisted Wedge heads AND one of their "recommended" rockers (FRPP, Trick Flow, Crane Gold) the "proper" pushrod length is 6.75"
About 6-7 months back Summit/TFS had a shortage of this length, so they then subtutuited the 6.70" length, which worked also.
I didn't measure mine, I just used the FRPP blue rockers as they recommended and ordered the 6.75" from JDs, worked out perfectly for me. Oh, and the TFS rockers and the Ford blue rockers are the exact same rocker...both made by Crane.

My stock valve covers cleared fine (using the cork gaskets). I took out the three tiny screws and removed the baffle b/c it wouldn't clear, but the covers fit fine, no grinding needed. I do have some oil splash through my breather now, but I bought a sheet of thin sheet metal from Home Depot so I can hand "form" a baffle to clear the rocker and attach it with the three stock screws, the tuner Danny Swanson gave me that tip. hth

Here are the correct rockers

You really need to get a P-rod checker and measure for yourself and have some custom made.

Anyways here are the correct roller rockers that are made specifically for TFS high port heads and they do not have that turn angle that regular rockers do. These new Harland Sharp rockers have an offset pushrod seat to keep the rocker true to the valve. The part number is STFH4003-7 and the phone number is 440-238-3260.

FWIW, they offer these new rockers specifically for your head for Victor JR, TFS TW's & TW R's and of course the TFS High ports. There may be more, I'm just not aware of it yet.

Good luck, Brent.
