On the first page, first post I laid out that mine came off of a 94 V6 Cougar at the junkyard. I believe that you can find them on just about any of Ford product line from the 94/95 timeframe - T'birds, Cougars, Aerostar vans, Rangers, etc.

Here's the link that inspired me to relocate mine - lots of good info here too.... http://www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/remote_tfi.htm

From the rangerstation link...

"A good way to correct this problem is to mount the TFI module in a remote mount heatsink. Some Fords such as the 1989 - 1995 Mercury 3.8L Cougar and 1986 - 1996 Ford Aerostar vans have the TFI mounted in a heatsink. The 1989 - 1993 Cougar has them mounted on the radiator support bracket. The 1994 - 1995 models have them mounted on the front fender apron. Aerostars have them mounted on the right front inner fender under the hood."

When I did mine on my old 5.0, I used The Ranger Station as my template for this, so I found one online that was close enough, did a bit of light fab work to make it fit and all done. The kit posted about McCully Racing looks like a good deal for $55, assuming that it comes with a TFI module as well. It's always good to keep a backup, especially w/o relocating the module, but even with being relocated its nice to have just in case.

No TFI module in the McCully kit.

Like I said junkyard dont have old cars, because there isnt that many on teh street that get wrecked. Any how I found one, from a guy on ebay.

If anyone finds one in a junkyard, or finds another spare, or something like that, you can take it to AutoZone and the module can be tested there.

One key thing for anyone that is doing this, or even just replacing a defunct module - you MUST use the correct heat sink paste, and NOT use dielectric grease, or equivalent. I don't think they sell the paste at auto parts stores, unless you buy a whole new module in which case they usually give you a tube for install, but if you go to Radio Shack or an electronics hobby store, they should have it in stock.

My 91 is still less than 100k miles, so its supposed to be covered by a recall (no time limit, just 100k miles), but all the old structure to get it done at the dealer is gone, web page etc, so last I checked I needed to write to Ford legal to get my VIN activated so the TFI shows as a warranty item.

Has anybody seen the relocation kit that Ford used for the recall?

My AutoZone still has the test thing, but nobody had a clue how it worked, and didn't look like it still worked even if somebody knew how. This is in SoCal and the guys at the store said none of the testers in other stores in OC were still working.

Radio Shack carries Arctic Silver heat sink compound...which seems to be the item of choice.

IIRC there was a recall for other Ford vehicles that used the same TFI setup, and again, IIRC, I think the T-bird was another big one that you might be able to find info on to get part numbers. Best way would be to do a TSB search for your vehicle and get the details on that particular TSB and sometimes they list the factory part numbers in the recall. If they do, then you are set, but even if they are obsolete part numbers, Touseley (DEF recommend for any Ford/Motorcraft/FR parts :joy:) they should still be able to find the current part number.

Bestbuy has artic silver heat sink grease as well.

I picked up a TFI heat sink from greg at alltiming at hotmail dot com, price was very good and shipping was quick. Just email him, he has full kits as well

Thanks for your input, I lengthened all module wires and ran 3- new wires from the distributor to the heatsink but originaly did not ground the shielded wire. I[after seeing your photos] attached it to the heatsink and still have no signal to the fuel pump. The old girl ran before I did this. Any ideas?

Mine fired right up after the mod....I've got to assume that something's gone awry in your wire lengthening or in being sure that you've got the correct wire on the correct terminal.

backprobe the PIP and see what the voltage is during crank
