SVO Supercharger....what kind of power gain did you get?

The FRPP catalog claims 55 HP. That seems awfully low. They claim 35 for the SVO heads and people on the Corral have claimed 50 HP from the '99 head swap. 55 HP almost doesn't seem worth the time and $ compared to that.

Who has before/after dyno results?

Well.....I'm going to say about 70-80 RWHP with the 9lb pulley but I'll know for sure this coming weekend...I may be over-estimating a bit but we'll see....

Also...I got mine brand new from Roush for $1800 shipped about 4 months ago

I got one from Roush too. I haven't installed it yet. I spent the last several weeks installing all the items in my sig. How did you make out with the vacuum lines? They don't look like they match up.

Marty, Rio Red,

Any detonation issues with the 9lb pulley? Did you have to get a custom tune after you installed it? Where did you get it and how much?

#6 ·
No...no detonation issues w/ the 9lb'er....just pure torque and no traction... hehehe... No honestly...the car really really woke up after the 9lb pulley...just bolt it on and go...running the 190lph and the SVO EEC...just the things supplied in the kit and everythings strong as hell....car is running great!!! I got the pulley from ASP and it cost $85...bolts right on

The SVO/Roush kit was half price compared to either of those kits. To me, they weren't worth the extra $.

Where do you get the ASP pulley? Is it easy to install? 9lbs sounds like where I want to go.

Install was cake....about 30min...just need a pulley puller. I ordered mine from ASP (Auto Specialities Parts) I think.....do a search of google or metacrawler for ASP or Auto Specialities and they will custom make it for 85 buck...2 weeks for steel and 3 for aluminum...I just got the steel...

You will love the Svo roots sc after driving a stock anemic 96-98
4.6 l. My car went 11.70 at our local 1000ft track bolted on the blower and dropped to 10.90 just like that. Thats gotta be about 70-80hp. I think Ford's conservetive rating is taking into account the 6 cat h-pipe that comes with the 96-98 Gt's. Add a off road h-pipe and you will gain about 70-80 hp.
I just took my car to the Little rock fairgrounds 1/8th mile dragway and there was not a car faster then mine in the street class(mostly stock cars with bolt-ons). Its fun putting the hammer down on Cobras,Vettes, Z28's ,SS's and any import that lines up with me.
If you do get the Svo roots your best mods to add are off road h-pipe,big tb,Sticky tires and Steeda timing aadjuster. Your car will run like a scalded dog with these mods and the Svo roots.
While you won't get the big horsepower numbers the torque you get will bring a smile to your face every time you mash the throttle.

well with the svo blower you are near guaranteed that you will see 300 rwhp with some minor mods.
anymore than 300 rwhp you have to mod your heads or put a kind of water injection to cool the thing off.

the svo blower is all about throttle response and instant power, yes your car will not give out outrageous #'s at the dyno but never the less you will give ls1's a hard time, mod that sucker a bit more and you will start playing with vettes. And i guarantee you 24 car diffrence with notto drag radials on an lt1

after getting the blower start thinking of 2 things:
1)some cooling mechanism(I went with the water injection route)
2)traction(you will need it as you will launch like a raped ape)

my base dyno with the svo blower at 6 psi(stock) an off road h-pipe and a K&n was 270 rwhp(actually 269.3)

I have detonated and cracked my pistons lately but that was because of a leeking fuel line:confused:

well the forged rebuold kt will com around october 5th or so .
and the car's new setup will be the following:
1-forged pistons
2-port\polish the cylinder heads with new huge valves(gonna hog the heads)
3-99+ stock cams
4-tapping the upper intake for the water injection.
5-blower at 6 psi

we shall see how far the svo blower\97 heads setup will go!Any more idea we could do on the setup?

Hey Purple....do you think I'm in any danger of cracking any pistons???...I don't think I'm detonating but who knows for sure...no knocking that I can hear of or maybe I can't hear it because of the magnapacks:evil: ...but seriously....should I think about the aquamist system or something similiar or is that not at the root of the problem????...any thoughts are appreciated

One thing to remember is that the Ford rating of 55 hp is based on a stock GT. Not one with an X-pipe and exhaust and hi-flow air filter(the kit doesn't include a free flowing air filter) like most on this board. The exhaust mods help even more with the SC on the car. I still think 60+rwhp on a bone stock GT with the stock pulley would be pretty standard. I'll be surprised if yours didn't hit 270-275 rwhp with the stock pulley with your headers and X-pipe. Throw in the PI cams for even more fun! ;)

D97GT....I need those cam numbers!!!!....get yourself over to the dyno....and I'll deliver numbers on Sunday comparing a 97 GT with everything in the sig except S/C'er VS. everything in sig + 9lbs of forced air supplied by Roush:evil: If you want....pls go ahead and put your guess's down....and I'll find this thread or post a new one for all those interest!!! Should be a great comparison

I wish I could but I'm going to be too busy for the next few weeks to be able to get to a track or dyno. I'll probably get some 1/4 mi numbers around the 1st week of October.

Careful!

With the 9 lb pulley I detonated @ WOT with 100 Octane in the tank. After 57,000 on the SVO Blower I blew my #3 Piston on 91 Octane. Its always wise to get a tune. I know I'm not the 1st person to blow his engine with the SVO.... Awhile back GreenMachine did the same thing with his.... always remember to have enough gas in the tank and don't settle for anything less than 92 octane.

my old 97 gt made 297rwhp and 332rwtrq. the 9# pulley is the way to go. i ditched the 190lph pump and went straight to tthe 255lph pump. i did not use the svo eec either, instead i got a custom tune with the stock eec.
Well.....the custon tune on the EEC is an idea of mine...I just want to wait until I get on the dyno to see my A/F ratio. I think I'm ok with the 190lph but what kinda numbers should I be looking for at WOT on my f/p gauge????

It should be around 40 psi at WOT, Thats where mine was at stock. The main thing to watch for is that the fuel pressure stays stable and doesn't start to drop off at higher RPM's. If so the fuel pump isn't able to keep up!

Can you use a 9lb pulley and a 255lb/hr pump with the SVO EEC or do you need a custom tune?
That combo should work fine without a custom tune. I would be running the 9 lb pulley myself (with a 190 lph pump, I feel its more than sufficient) if I didn't have detonation problems. But I've had my problems since the car was new and unmodded. I've just had to work around them.

Rio Red where are you going to get dynoed? I see you are in Trumbull. I'm in NY just over the border by New Canaan and Ridgefield, maybe 25 -30 miles from you. The only dynos I've heard about is either LaRocca's and Crazy Horse in NJ and I think there's one on Long Island.
