Does anyone here have a nice 302/306 build that makes good power? Im thinking about building a 306 and want to see if 350rwhp is a reasonable goal. It will be a dd car and I have close to 6k to spend. Anyone care to share their setups?

do you want the horsepower or is there a specific 1/4 mile number your trying to run?

If your not limited by class, why not build a 347? There is a big difference between a max effort 306 and a 347 but the cost is not that much more for the the better engine. Guess which one is better.

my roommates 88GT

302 stock shortblock
windsor jr iron heads
systemax intake(no spacer)
comp ots nos cam
65mm tb
24's + proflow maf
1-5/8 shorties, 2.5 OR-H, flowmaster CB
stock T5 trans, king cobra clutch
3.73's + U&L control arms
hoosier slicks

with a 150 shot it runs 11.20's @ 122 and 12.60-70's off the bottle. completely daily driveable and he doesnt have 3k into the whole set-up.

When I was running the 306 combo, I had a pretty simple set-up: Cobra intake, AFR165's, 10:1 CR, FTI camshaft, FMS shorty headers w/ Mac H-Pipe and stock cat-back. It was a very fun street car set-up, low maintenance.....and everybody wanted a free ride - LOL. I never had it on the dyno or to the track to give you any numbers......but it was definitely a lot of fun for the amount of money I had in it. Before you start buying parts, be honest with yourself about what you want from the car in the future and plan accordingly. This may prevent you from buying the parts twice as you want more from the car (if that is the plan).

I basically want a fun street car with little maintenance. Im leaning toward going 306 with AFR 185's, Holley systemax with spacer or RPM2, FTI cam and long tube headers with maybe some 4.10s.

Ive pretty much got my suspension in. UCA/LCAs, welded boxes upper and lower, sub frames, big breaks etc.

I dont have to have the fastest car out there. Just wanna whip up some bolt on ls1's, get groceries, and be able to take the lady out in one day.

Unless your limited by class, I don't know why anyone would take the time and mony to build a performance n/a 306 when for a small amount more they could build a lighter and stronger 347.

Stroker will be easier to make the power, will make more tq, and do it all at a lower RPM...

This is of course speaking in general.

A 306 street car making 350 rwhp is not insanely hard by any means, but it would be much simpler to do it with a stroker.

This is also coming from a guy who wants to build an NA 306 with worked E7s and a Cobra intake. :D
