SN95 Hydraulic Clutch

Hey guys,

I'm looking for options for a hydraulic clutch master cylinder in my SN95. The ONLY option on the market at this time is McLeod. I've installed a few of them. They leave a lot to be desired. They are damn near impossible to bleed, and the people who have them don't really care for the pedal feel.

I saw this kit come out and i got really excited:

Modern Driveline 79-93 Fox Mustang/Capri hydraulic Master cylinder.

Now, seeing every clutch cable and quadrant ever made fits 79-04, I figured I could use this in my '95. Modern Driveline says you cant. They claim the firewall is different for 94-04. They informed me that they have purchased a SN95 firewall clip from a junkyard to design a SN95 specific kit, but they are 1 year or more away from releasing said kit.

So, I guess my question is, what is so different between the SN95 and Fox firewall? I know the pedal box assembly is completely different, however they use the same quadrant. I'm debating about just ordering one of the 79-93 kits and seeing if I can make it work. My car is LS swapped and I have a GM hydraulic slave cylinder already in the trans, so a cable clutch is not an option.

The SN95 firewall is 100% different from a Fox firewall. It was manufactured from completely new tooling, so it makes no sense to assume that anything is the same between them.

From the posts below you can see how different the firewalls are.

Under the dash, things are very different. The brace that holds up the dash near the clutch quadrant is in a different location between the two cars for instance. This is exactly where the mechanism for the Modern Driveline goes under the dash.

Jack,

Thank you for your response! I'm a huge fan of MM products and have been using them for years. Before I asked this question, I reviewed the MM install instructions for the firewall adjuster and clutch quadrant to see if there were any variations in procedure between Fox and SN95, there were not aside from OEM cable modification.

I get that the Fox firewall only has one cable mounting screw.

I also get that the pedal box assembly is different between Fox and SN95. However, they use the same clutch cable components, so what would prevent using the Modern Driveline setup on an SN95? The only part of their setup that interfaces with the SN95 pedal assembly is the lever arm that mounts to the two quadrant mounting pins. I'm assuming those are the same dimension/location since the aftermarket clutch quadrants fit both model cars.

Pardon my ignorance, I'm just not seeing what the big difference is for this application?

Matt,

Some of the features in the firewalls are the same. Such as holes for the clutch cable. Some of the relationships are the same, such as the relationship between the clutch pedal shaft axis of rotation and the clutch cable hole in the firewall.

However, the firewall is made of two different sheets of metal with a flange bent into the piece on the Driver's side. This flange runs up the edge of this piece right next to the hole for the clutch cable. The area around the clutch cable hole is also depressed. Both of these features (flange and depressed area) are built differently on the two different cars. Since the m/c in the Modern Driveline kit mounts to the firewall in the clutch cable hole, the exact dimensions of these features determine how and whether it will fit or not.

In addition to this are the issues under the dash I explained above.

Excellent response! I understand what you are saying.

I'm still determined to find non-McLeod hydraulic master solution. Perhaps I will make something custom.

Thank you for your help!

my mcleod hyd TOB, has been problem free, and IMHO a great pedal feel

i think some of the negative feel might have to with not using the mcleod flywheel

i had no issues with bleeding

the kit you linked looks nice though
