I'm putting my new motor combo together and hopefully it will be done in the next 2 weeks.

I should be running mid-low 10's in the 1320 with my 5-speed.

At what point should I consider swapping out the stock bell housing for an approved scatter shield to protect my feet? I've seen them but never used one myself so I'm not sure at what point it's considered necessary.

The car is a true daily driver and will only see the track maybe 3 times a summer.

Additionally, are there any recommendations on brands to go with?

Asides from collecting your toes NHRA regs says 11.99 and faster (but I haven't read them in a bit...). I've got a McLeod... it's ok but is the universal unit so big. I like the looks of the QuickTime... nice and compact. When you get one do index it no matter the claims made for it. See the Lakewood site for instructions. If the alignment is good out of the box, great :) If not it's not a huge deal to get it right.

lou used a blanket because the scattershield was on B/O.
(he said so in the show)

I thought on the Show he said that the Blankets were so popular that they were on Back Order... He spent all that time fabbing the Floor up in that Nova to fit right aroung that Bellhousing, seems like a lot of work to have to go back in and cut it out again to fit a Scattershield.

I have a Mcleod. I got it back when they were $290 three years ago. I have been happy with it and indexing is still a pain in the ass no matter what anyone says, especially when being done by just yourself! FTR, even though they say it doesn't need to be indexed, I needed .007" dowel pins to get mine as centered as possible. In the end, I think I had a total of .002" of runout, and they say a maximum of .005" - so it was perfect! Only fit issue I had was with a BBK H-pipe and the passenger O2 sensor being very tight against it.

I got mine because as stated, I like walking and still having a car that is/would be repairable. It only takes one video of the incident happening and you start thinking differently about needing one or not.

Are you guys that are running the scattershield also running SFI flywheels & clutches or just the stock units?

I'm just looking at what's needed should this new motor push me past the 10.99 mark next summer.

Like I said, this is a street only car but I do like to make the occasional club clash or things like that through the year.

I was just looking at the Anderson Ford Motorsports web site. They are selling a new bellhousing that is suposed to be smaller. My motor comes back out this winter and that bellhousing will go in.
