Has anyone ever seen or purchased brand new set of rear quarter window moldings? My quarter windows are leaking! the glass is fine, so I dont feel like going out an spending $350 for a pair of quarter windows just to stop a leak.

well the fox body has a seal around the quarter window. You would have to pull the inside panel out and remove all the nuts and remover the window and reseal it. Has it ever been removed before? Because thats odd that its leaking.

If the outter rubber around the glass is destroyed and causing the leak you are out of luck. For some reason Ford made those glasses one piece with the mouldings. You have to replace the entire assembly to replace the moulding.
I agree with Mustangous though it is odd that the quarter windows would leak. You should remove the interior trim panel, the nuts holding the window in place and CAREFULLY push the window out and reseal it using the proper black butyl sealer.
Or if your not comfortable doing it I am sure that a quality window repair shop, or windshield shop would do the resealing for a reasonable price.

I have never pulled the glass befor. The previous owner could have pulled the glass, but im not sure. What if I took the car to a window repair shop, could they maybe take the old moldings off and replace them? The moldings are realy dry rotted, maybe thats why they are leaking? They look bad, even if they werent leaking I'd still want to replace them.

OK....if you think so go ahead and try, but be prepared to spend 800.00 on new quarters when you destroy the ones that you have.

The moulding does not come off! But if you wanna try go right ahead.

yeah the rubber outside the windows does not come off and also does not seal anything. so the only thing you can do for appearence is either buy the plastic covers that fit right over the rubber part or they sell used ones for 300 or 400 dollars that are close to perfect, but i doubt that are perfect. They also sell new repo's that are supposed to be good but they dont have the mustang lettering in the window. You can look in the mustang mags under any of the resto places for them.

For the leak, to do it right, you will have to remove the rear seat ( because the backing bolts through the plastic) and all the plastics required to remove that inside quart peice. Then there will be goldish small bolts ( maybe 10mm i think) that hold the quarter glass in plass. There is probably like 10 bolts. Then when you try to remove the window it will seem like there are still bolts holding it in, but theres not cause of the gooey sealent they use to seal the window. Just remove all the old stuf and start fresh with so new sealent. And just reverse the process. Its actually not that hard and if you take it some where it might the will charge a lot because it is time consumming escpecially if you never did it.....

FYI, the $349 is for an aftermarket set of quarter windows and they do not say "Mustang" along the bottom. Not sure if you care or not. I looked into buying actual Carlite brand quarter glass and one side was $800~ and the other was mid $700's. Those OEM glass prices are insane!

ya that is pretty crazzy... im sure I will be able to live without the windows saying Mustang for that price.
I have not heard any reviews of those aftermarket quarter windows. If I were you I would do some research on them. Maybe try to find someone who has used them. I say this because alot of the aftermarket "restoration" items on the market now are cheap junk. I am not saying that these are junk, but I would be very careful.

I just bought some of those $350.00 windows from Latemodel Performance. They look pretty decent, but I haven't put them in yet. I took all my interior out for access, but my body guy will get the priveledge of taking them out and putting in the new ones. I'm dropping it off this week for the paint job. Took the front bumper cover off tonight, almost ready!

Aftermarket Quarter Windows - Beware!

Review of aftermarket Quarter windows!!Be Carefull!! I just got a pair of aftermarket quarter windows for my lx from C.J Pony Parts. They were $320 and after installation, the passenger side window is all kinds of screwed up! Three studs actually broke out of the rubber molding!! It looks like the window is about to fall out of the car, because the three that broke loose, run parallel to the rear window. It is extremely noticable! I did not overtighten them, and driver side is perfect-no problems. If you buy a set, make sure you test fit it them and see if the window is going to sit flush, without huge gaps before bolting them in, (like I had-maybe I should have sent them back before-hand). Now I am having a hell of a time trying to get this taken care of as far as a replacement. I think it may of been a defective window (if possible), or it was molded wrong. I am waiting to hear back from C.J.'S, as to what they want to do. The manufacturer of the windows is Scott Drake, and I don't know if that is what 5.0 Resto sells for $350. I thought I would save $30, but it dont think it was worth this headache. I'm sure other people have put them in, and not had a problem, but I did. By the way, this is my first post, so if its messed up I'm sorry. I am very pleased to be a member of a website with this much awesome information!!!

The ones I got from 5.0 resto are Scott Drake too. My body man said that he has used that brand before and seemed like he thought it was a pretty good brand. Like I said, they look pretty decent, and I will find out soon how they are. I will probably test fit them according to your advice now though. Maybe wiggle the studs a little to see if they are shaky right off the bat. I wouldn't think you would want to overtighten them anyway with the the black stuff there to do all the sealing. I will mention to him to be careful of that too.

Reman'd 1/4 Glass

There is a company out there that restores YOUR 1/4 glass. I am at work right now but will post up the #'s for ya', in the AM. I talked to the company owner, and he says he does 1200 or so of them a year. He guarantees a show quality window back to you. For around $350, I believe. i've got a set I'm gonna send them as soon as I can get my hands on a shipping box. I like this, because, I'd like to have MY windows back. Like I say, I'll post the #'s and let ya know how well they turned out when I get them back.

Yep...Dugan Racing. Super nice guys! Like I said...I talked with the owner, and he gave good info as far as "HOW" to ship them to 'em, particularly covering the bolts. Give them a try, I'm gonna.

Here's a hint. Use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the 3M adhesive "rope" that you have already attached to the body of the car before you install the window.

That said, it should be obvious - don't install these in the cold because the 3M rope will be hard and put extra stress on the bolts when tightening.

Mustang393, Why did you take your Dugan bashing post away? If it's the truth, why shouldn't people know about it? I really don't get this restore stuff anyway. What is there to restore in these windows? Anybody could sand them down a little, and fill them a little, and sand a little more and then paint them. Would anybody pay over $300 for it? I don't know how else they could be restoring them. :bs:

Because I was kind of harsh and people have bad days...I see no reason to possibly hurt someones business for a phone call...I probably will not use him but alot of people have commented on how great he is so I am thinking it was one of his off days...LOL Let people call and make their own decision and not have a preconceived opinion based on my comments

I asked him (dugan) via email about his windows about getting a picture and he said he can't then he replies that i will not be happy and that "i would find fault in his product." :bs:

What kind of response is that for a potential customer!!!

This guy is a total jackass!!!!! :curses:

This idiot just just lost all my respect and potential business!! :shakehead
