Hey all. I just figured I would let you know about an incedent my buddy has had with Kieth Craft...
My buddy decided he wanted to build a race car.. needless to say he needed a motor.... so he was flipping through the magazines and seen Keith Craft... so he called them up and talked and they ordered a motor
a $14,000 351 nitrous motor that makes 750hp, that is supposed to be able to handle 400hp worth of juice
Anyhow my buddy drives to Keith Crafts shop and rents a motel room...He goes in to see his new motor which is supposed to be done.. and it isnt.. needless to say he had to stay another night and miss another day of work....
Next day he gets to the shop and the motor is sitting on the dyno...
they fire it up and it spins to rod bearings rght away.. scraps the crank and all...
So they have to replace the crank and two rods get it balanced and build it again... one more day down the tube for my buddy...(miss work plus hotel room)
next day he goes into their shop and once again they have it sitting on the dyno...
they fire it up and my buddy notices water running out of the edge where the head meets the header....they ported them too big and hit a water jacket..... another day down the tube....they swap on a brand new set of afr 225 port them etc etc.... he tells my buddy it will be ready tommorow....thats 3 days so far extra my freind had to stay... miss work and pay for the motel....
anyhow next day he gets their and everything runs smooth. she dynos at like 750... its all good.. he loads the motor in his truck and drives back to Florida...
Well he puts it in his car.. takes it to the track and on motor the car runs 9.65... very very good...
so they take the car home and put the plate system on.. jet it for 150 hp and take it back to the track..(mind you this car has a seperate fuel system for the juice.... its set-up right)
well on the first run.. about 60ft out the car drops oil pressure...
melted down half a piston.....
so they get home yank the motor and call Keith Craft... Keith tells him.. sorry man their is nothing we can do for you.... my buddy kind of expected that seeing on how it was a race motor but figured since maybe he spent so much on it Keight might send him another piston or something..
So anyhow he takes the motor down to the reputable engine builder in town and they tear it apart.... the lifters were rusted so bad that they were flaking rust off....
so my buddy calls Keith and says "man these lifters are rusted can you send me another set?" Keith says send me those lifters to check them out.. he sends them to Keith Craft pays like 25 bucks for overnight shipping.... a few days later my freind calls and they say that they cant do anything for him.. not only that but they wont ship him is rusty lifters back unless he pays shipping.....
Now I dont know about you guys but if someone just spend 14,000 on my motor the least I could do is supply some new lifters....
Rich
