Im sure there are alot of threads about coilovers, but cant get a clear answer if my 17x9 10 th Anniv.rims...w/255 40 17's fronts will have enough room for coilovers.
And if they do what size spring and rate are you guys using for a 91 coupe with stock k member and brakes, and sway bar..Car also has after market aluminum heads and still has AC..
Car is a street driven car and would like to keep street manors with better handling.

Any thoughts..looking into MM kit
Pics help alot..

Thanks!!

Same wheels(O.E. Repros) and tire size(Nitto NT555),MM coilovers w/Bilsteins and also had to run a 1/4'' spacer which gave me about 3/16'' clearance between the tire and spring with a ride height of 25.75'' ground to fender lip.
I will be going to a 245/45/17 shortly which is 1/2'' narrower +-,hoping to gain much needed clearance at the fender lip and enough to the inside to remove the spacer.

I do have a hatch so....with 250lb rear conventional spring and wanting good ride characteristics on the street,Jack recommended a 225lb 12'' spring.I love how the car rides on the street with this setup.

You will have to run spacers or they will rub for sure. I have an extra set of 17x10 cobra's that I run on the street sometimes they're 245/45's and without spacers the rim/tire edge comes in contact with the 2.5" diameter coilover springs. I run a stock k-member, qa1 coilovers, qa1 cc plates, manual rack, bump steer kit and no sway bar.

Going to be doing this soon too.
From what i have read and talking to other people who have, here's what i've learned.

1. spacers are a definite possiblity.

2. It depends on the size of your springs. With the coiliovers you can go 14, 12, 10 or 8. i've heard the smaller it is, such as 8 inch springs are most likely to work out of the box. Have heard several people say that their wheel hits the coilolver collar/perch. having an 8 inch spring/coilover raises it up over the wheel/tire and eliminates the point of contact. maybe on a 14 inch the collar would be down inside the wheel and not cause an issue.

if i understand things right about coilovers, it really depends on what the purpose of your car is as to what size package is recommended to you. For instance the guys at maximum motorsports recommended to me 10 inch.
for a drag car its usually 14 or 12. Not sure if im right on this but the shorter your spring the higher your spring rate has to be. i think you can put 150 lb spring on a 14 inch but not 150 lb on an 8 inch.

3. the later 96-04 spindles will give you just a touch more clearance than the 94-95 spindles.

hope that helps.

Hey man just noticed your PM and figured i'd just post here..

You should not need any spacers up front to clear coilovers.. all you have to do is raise or lower the collar above or below the interference point.

I've daily driven my blue car with the following for the last two years with zero issues:

upr moly k member
upr tub control arms fox length
upr cc plates
upr bumpsteer kit
upr coil over kit (14" springs@175)
94 spindles
pbr calipers from a 99
fr500 17x9/17x10.5, 245/40/17's and 275/40/17's
rear FRPP "c" springs with one coil cut off

From time to time the car gets prostars bolted on but mainly has the fr500's because it's a street car.

Don't skimp on the struts you go with.. get the best ones you can before installing the coilover kit it'll only help the ride later.

Hope that helps

I had a problem with my coilovers on my Fox...

Team Z K member, A arms and C/C plates, STrange 10-way struts, Strange coilovers with Knight 170lb springs. I went with a 17x9 Bullet style wheels that was actually made for a SN95, so the backspace wasnt exactly correct. But the coil over adjustment nut hit the lip of the wheel, so I had to crank the nut up a little farther then I originally wanted to clear the wheel and tire.

I run 5.94" backspaced 17x9's with 255/40/17's. Everything clears great.

I've run my MM C/O kit on the 86 with the stock K, sn95 a-arms and 245/45/17s. The length of the spring in my case is critical. At that time I ran a front ride height of 25-5/8" in order to clear fender rubbing; camber was -1.8* (means the top of the tire is leaning into the C/O). There was no C/O contact. However, I thought perhaps running a 12" spring might give me more adjustment range but that set the adjustment collar down enough to interfere with the wheel.

Later switched to the MM K and still run the same C/O. Here, I've increased camber to -2.3* and lowered the car to 25.25". Still no clearance problems with a 10" spring but it is clear that a longer spring would be a problem. My autocross 95 Cobra Rs with 255s clear too.

You have a 91, so bigger wheel well openings. I tried those exact wheels and tires, on my 88, with stock suspension and I couldn't even turn the wheels without them hitting. Never even tried driving on them. Hopefully you have better luck than I did with those things.
