Intercooler installs. CX racing to Treadstone-

Thought i'd post some pics of the installs I've done with both style intercoolers. I found the cx racing 3" core I/c way to restrictive so I swapped to a Treadstone! Can't wait to get it dyno tuned again. I custom made the piping up from the cx racing piping which is really nice piping by the way.

First off the Cx core- was able to retain most of my bumper support with this one. Didn't touch ps lines either they still sit in stock place for both cores.

Now on to the Treadstone core which is MUCH MUCH bigger-

Had to cut the whole center of the bumper support out to make this one fit-

Mounting brackets in the bumper support-

All done- Pretty easy over all to install these.

I should have went with the Treadstone core from the start. You definitely get what you pay for!

Hope this helps anyone!

Good call there Sir!

The treadstone looks nice, however comparing a smaller 3 inch CX core to a 4.5 TS is not really a fair comparison. My bet is the CX 4" core would not be far off from the TS.

Mainly just an installation thread with these two. Can't really compare them except treadstone is much higher quality all the way around

Everything else aside, the cores themselves are about the same quality. Just one is thicker than the other. I can tell you from experience, they are ok for the money, but not great by any means. They are both Ebay cores that are likely sourced from China cheap.

I am curious to see what gains made by the thicker core though. Esp now with summer coming along. I still had such a problem wit IAT's with these cores

I am contemplating whether or not to pony up for the Treadstone or just run the CX Racing kit with the upgraded 4 core. If running just shy of 400 whp, would the CX 3" core unit suffice or would the 4" core in either CX or Treadstone be a must? How long does it take to notch the bumper support? Nice looking setups guys, hope to have my build done before summer is over.

I have experience wth a cx racing intercooler and i feel it was a real restriction on my car at over 500rwhp and it ate up almost 5lbs of boost , but i did just order a treadstone tr1235 cuz its basically just about the same size as the cx racing intrcoolr 31x12x3 that i have in my car now.. I had just bought a procharger 3 core intercooler to switch it out wth my cx racing one but i would hav had to change my intercooler plumbing to mak it fit, which is why i ordered the treadstone wth the same size specs as the cx racing one..My tuner told me bout a guy wth a similar build to mine that pickd up about 50rwhp and a few lbs of boost after he switched out his cx racing intercooler wth a treadstone.. I will hav new dyno results from the treadstone after next weeeknd and i will post them. I think that the cx racing intercoolers r ok at lower hp levels for the $ anywya.. But if u wanna just do it rite the 1st time,.. get the treadstone. I think they r worth the extra coin...imho.

Thanks for the insight. Let's say in theory I keep it under 400 HP; would a Procharger 2 core work OK? I think Skidad may have ran that one on his setup but can't be certain.

How is the blow off valve that comes with the CX Racing kit? I've heard the quality isn't great but they do sound good from the few clips I've heard. Not to get this thread entirely off topic, but what would you guys recommend as far as a BOV goes? I know sound isn't indicative of performance, but I want more of a fluttering sound rather than a singer large whoosh or surge or air, or the higher pitched units I've heard.

Getting back to the intercooler part...if I run a Procharger 2 or 3 core versus a Treadstone TRV25, will I have to make a bunch of custom cuts if I ran the CX Racing piping kit or should I piece it together instead? Thoughts and opinions very much appreciated.

I would likely jump on a used CX Racing kit for the right price if anyone has one they are selling!

Hey Sean i cant say anything for the cx brand bov as i use a vortech mini race bov, i only used the cx racing 3in piping and the cx racing 31x12x3 intercooler. Now if i were u i would just buy it new considering how cheap it is but if u wantd i could sell u the cx intercooler that i hav which i used on my set up but am switching it out for the treadstone as i mentioned earlier. But if u really want it gme an offer on it and for the rite price ill ship it to ya.. Now as i said it prob worth it just to buy it new cuz of shipping.. Lmk if u interestd. I think for ur hp level the cx intercooler should work fine for u.. btw in my procharger intercooler ad in the pic. The 2nd intercooler is the cx intercooler i have...
