Foxbody long tube header install/removal

I have a set of bbk longtubes on the car currently. On the driverside, there is the steering equipment that goes right through the middle of them. What is the procedure for taking the headers out? What do I undo to get that rod out from the middle of the driver side header?

Also, the passenger side is really tight because of my bellhousing on the tremec tko. Is the only way to get the header out by jacking the motor up slightly?

Drop the steering column/shaft from inside the car:
[not neccarily all the steps, or exact procedure, but you get the idea]

1.Undo the crosspin in the steering shaft (near the brake booster).
2.You undo 4 bolts from the steering column, from under the dash.
3. Pull the steering wheel rearwards (towards driver's seat), and it slips off the steeting shaft (where you removed the crosspin).
4. Then you can undo the rubber isolator bushing just above the steering rack.
5. Remove the steering shaft.
6. Remove headers.
7. loosend motor mounts, lean motor on side to remove passenger header.

wow, this should be fun. Hopefully everything comes out smoothly... thanks for the info.

Your steering goes through the headers? What kind of BBK headers do you have? Oh, and yes you will have to raise the motor some.

I've done lots of these and there's a much easier way.

1. Remove the crosspin bolt that connects the steering shaft to the shaft that comes thru the firewall. (The brake booster one, same as above)
2.Loosen the clamp that attaches the steering shaft to the rack.
3.Loosen the steering rack where it connects to the K member.
4.Slide the rack forward about 1 to 1 1/2 inches. Sometime you need to remove the swaybar end links so you can swing the swaybar out of your way.
5.Clunk, out comes the steering shaft.

I've done bunches of these and never even opened the car door, much less dropped the steering column.
