What's the safety risk?

Raw gasoline vapor which is explosive.

The vapor is drawn through the activated charcoal in the canister and then burned harmlessly inside the engine.

The line is a metal line all the way back to the tank. You can see it from the pass side if you take the rear wheel off.

Yeah I was being a smart a** when I asked that LOL. But seriously though I have seen many many foxes with it deleted. Also when was this first put on cars? I assume cars in the 60's didn't have it. I agree though even though I have not noticed any fumes myself, I would leave it on a daily driver, my car is just a toy so everything not essential is gone. I also have an offroad h pipe and dumps so my exhaust fumes may be drowning out the gas fumes.

after charcoal can removed,

has anyone heard of plugging the line and drilling a small hole in the gas cap?

We have no emissions in Iowa and run no canisters on any cars. And I have NEVER experienced a gas smell with any of our cars. Let alone one so strong that we can't park them inside for fear of stinking up the garage.
possibly you don`t notice it because every car smells the same way to you ...or maybe our sniffers are more sensitive to the smell of raw fuel...nonetheless the smell was still there

I don't understand. It's not like you go any faster if you take it off and does it really look that bad?

Oh probably. I forgot that all the cars around here smell like raw fuel and we're desensitized to it...
I wasn`t trying to be a smartass ...I was just trying to figure out why it wasn`t noticeable to you whereas it was to me and any of my buddies that had done it...I was a mechanic yrs ago and never noticed the smell of the garage...wife bitched all the time about the odour but since I stopped workin in a garage I know what she was complaining about...so possibly you are desensitized ...just a thought

or maybe its because we have more radical fluctuations in temp from day to night and the fuel rapidly expanding in the morning hours helps cause it ..maybe it`s climate oriented problem
Maybe your right. Here in louisiana it can be 40* one day and 90* + the next.

This "INTENSE GAS SMELL" that people always talk about makes me wonder if there on something when stating this. I removed the charocal canister from my 91GT and smell nothing. Now im used to being around the fuel small due to racing quads and cars. But honestly there is no "death posioning/explosions" that will occur. I have to take emissions in my part of Indiana but never had a problem. Get some show car plates and dont worry about emission testing anymore.

IMO: Remove the ugly useless canister. Cut the line back by the gastank.
Then you never have to worry about it again

UNLESS YOUR CAR BLOWS UP lol hahahahaha

How did you end up installing the resistor? In-line with the two open wires that were let after you cut?
yes, that’s all you need to do.

I dislike cutting harnesses to I found the same valve off an f150 that has a pigtail and cut that off and soldered/heatshurnk the resistor into that. Then I can plug in and remove if necessary

Got it, after ready more on the charcoal can delete - I don’t think it’ll even flag eng light or mess with the ECU - but I’ll prob install the resistor just in case.

That code does not trigger the CEL.

Installing the resistor just means when you pull codes you won’t get a code 85.

I did the resistor bypass on the TAD/TAB to avoid seeing the codes all the time.

Here, where it gets really hot in the summer (100+ for month or two), the canister is required. Why? The warmer the fuel tank gets the more it will vent. The canister prevents some of the fumes from escaping, rather it recirculates (purges) the fumes back into the intake, to be burned. There may be a slight increase in MPG, although I have not seen it, with the canister and purge valve installed/working. My 93 is a turbo 2.3 swapped, using the 1988 computer which does not use a purge system (Turbocoupe). So for a while I had to just leave the vent open. In less than a week I was looking for a canister for an older fox body (no CANP), then had to get real creative to make the vent work into the intake (post air filter but pre VAF) to help ditch the stench. Didn't notice it too much sitting outside not running, but certainly noticed it big time as soon as the a/c came on and the e-fan blows the fumes back to the cowl, then it is pulled into the cabin. It was STRONG, and annoying. But, I'm real sensitive to smells so, maybe some folks (especially smokers) may not notice it.

I find the stench to be annoying on a hot day after a cool night - and this is outside, not in the garage. I'll probably put the canister back in place, hopefully that'll keep the smell down even without the purge valve.
