Ok I got the fan recall done today. I must say they did a pretty shi**y job. they basically took a circuit breakers and plugged it into the fan and then plugged the harness back in. They actually used tie down straps to hold the circuit breaker to the fan shroud. Is this how everyone elses was done. I am calling tomorrow to complain. It looks like crap. I cant believe Ford tells them to to do it like this.

Also should you be able to physically see or hear the difference between the low speed and high speed fan setting? When does the low speed kick on?
I only see teh fan kick on when it gets about to the "m" or normal. it seem to be running pretty fast so i have to assume that sthe high speed. I never see it go any slower.

So does it sound like I got a bad fan?

Jeff here are the actual instuctions on the recall:(I couldn't get the pics to copy)
Mustang 3.8L and 5.0L HO

Record radio preset stations, then disconnect the battery negative cable.
CAUTION:
When securing the CBM to the fan shroud with the tie strap, be sure to wrap the tie strap around two (2) fan supports only and NOT a fan blade.

CAUTION:
The CBM for the 3.8L Mustang has one (1) circuit breaker, and the module for the 5.0L has two (2). Make sure the CBM you are installing is for the appropriate engine configuration. If the wrong part is installed on the vehicle, it will fail to protect the circuit.

Connect the CBM to the cooling fan motor, then connect the vehicle harness to the CBM. Secure the CBM to the cooling fan shroud with one (1) of the supplied tie straps. See Figure 8.

FIGURE 8

Take up the slack in the cooling fan shroud wire harness on the right side of the coolant recovery reservoir by gently pulling the harness through the reservoir bracket. Then fold the wire harness over on itself and secure it with the other supplied tie strap as shown. See Figure 9.

FIGURE 9

If equipped, position the radiator upper sight shield onto the vehicle and install the fasteners.
Connect the battery negative cable and set radio stations.
Check cooling fan operation.

thanks. Well I guess they are suppise to use tie straps. I dont agree. If I know they were going to make my engine bay look like crap, I wouldnt have taken it in.

Where does everyones temperature run. I checked today and without the circuit breaker in it runs at "r" and with it in it runs at "m". is this too hot? Should I just go get a new fan motor?

Thanks!!!
Jeff

About 20 miles after they did the recall on my car it over heated due to the wrong size breaker, I dont know the technical term. Keep a close eye on that temp gauge. They did a CRAP job on mine also, they broke the clip that holds the harnesses together. Also said there was bugs in my fan motor, and they'd clean it out for $75 , I bet you can guess what I told them.

Well after alot of reseach. I found another campaign(not recall). It was to replace the entire cooling fan system. I took that in and asked why they didnt replace it.

I am getting a new fan assembly put on tomorrow. Hopefully that helps out. I ordered some new cooling sensors as well. but atleast I'll have a new fan. They old one was making some weird noises anyway, most likely the fab bearing.

Guess you gotta just keep after them and they will do it. I had to call Ford and complain about the service and ask why this dealership would not due the recall work for free. Im sure the dealership was happy about that.

Anyway, I got what I wanted.

Yep I got a free fan assembly. Tell them its for recall 01M09.

I basically just took in this recall letter I printed off of http://www.nhtsa.gov/ and asked them why they didnt do it.

Its basically an extended warranty from the original purchase date of your car. 8 years or 100,000 miles. They will replace it for free.

You can also contact a customer service rep at ford. get the # at www.ford.com.

good luck.

I couldn't find that recall on the nhtsa site. Can you give a direct link? I have over 136k, I doubt I could get it anyhow.

Edit: Ok found it

I wish I would of known this before I went over 100K miles

Ya I just made it. They dont tell you anything, you gota figure it out yourself. Not very nice. I would have never gotten a free fan assembly if I didnt do the research. They initially told me no and was going to charge me to look into it.

I took it in today, they ran my VIN and it didn't show up. So they said they couldn't do anything about it. They said any recall for my car would show up, but I forgot to bring the 01M09 number. Their excuse was "maybe it wasn't manufactured at the Dearborn assembly plant" or "maybe your car didn't have the defective part, even though it fell in the range of the recall". I'll print out some info and check back with them later in the week.

I just looked at my VIN on the ford website and mine shows up already.

They replaced my whole fan too.

They did just the circuit breaker and that netted me no high speed fan at all. The low speed fan would run then when the high speed fan was supposed to kick in the car would overheat.

The dealer replaced my fan, therostat and hoses after they overboiled it in the service bay .

Tell me this, for those of you that got the fan recall done, did it show up when they ran your VIN??????
??? Anyone??

Is this a specific VIN recall, or does it cover all of them? No one knows it seems like. Only the hood and ebrake recalls show up when they run my VIN.

It covers ALL the 5.0 95's.....1995 TAURUS/SABLE PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 3.0L AND 3.8L ENGINES AND 1995 FORD MUSTANG VEHICLES WITH 3.8L AND 5.0L ENGINES

I had the bearings lock up on mine right before they issued the recall to have the breakers installed... caught fire as I pulled in the driveway.... it was 5 degrees outside and I pulled off the interstate to my house (3 blocks) so the thing didn't show as overheating until I hit the street traffic... I licked out... I contacted NHTSA after Ford blew me off... I think I was one of the people that got the pony included on the list..LOL

This topic is why I believe GM is a better car company.
This is my last Ford.

I did it all myself -- I saw the cheap circuit breaker fix and am glad I own a Suburban and not a Ford for my other car.

Good luck.
