Are you sure that the seat back itself has not broken which has nothing to do with the levers?

I have a 1991 LX 5.0 convertible and I got in 1 day and the seat back broke and I ended up in the back seat!!

Just a thought.

Mine did it but it ended up being a bolt that had sheared off. This was several years ago but I remember having to remove the seat cover off of the bottom of the seat back to replace the bolt.

This is what is happened too mine as we speak. Was your bolt too broken off inside the seat? Cuz I'm trying too figure out how too get that tip out of the hole

 

thanx for the advice I took part of the seat cover off and the plastic you were right the bolt that the seat pivots on sheared in half i'm going to drill it out and replace it this afternoon

 

Is drilling it out really the only way?

It was the broken bolt and/or the rear seat back frame being broken and requiring welding. If you were super lucky the rear floor pan where the seat attaches was also broken and required welding.
