Im looking for new mufflers, how do all these compare? How are the slp's? I love their tips in their cat backs. How is the sound compared to the borlas and magnaflow? Do they sound similar? Car is a 01 supercharged GT with bassani catted X-pipe. I want a nice tone, not too loud as its a DD but I do want some volume. Are the borla xr-1 and stingers too loud? Are they the same? Are regular magnaflows too quiet?

im an slp kinda guy...but...they are rediculously loud so, but they def make the best lookin tips, pretty sick imho. i have bassani on my car and couldnt be happier...they are expensive but they have a nice tone to them, not to loud, not to calm. ive had borlas, which are nice...good quality, ####ty tips though(look like ricer tips to me) as far as sound..they kinda sound like their underwater a lil bit, i liked the sound though, i dont think their too loud unless u dont have a catted midpipe,if you dont they are loud as can be just about...they are pricey also...ive had magnaflow and like bassani, good fit nice sound lil louder than bassani, but the price is a lil cheaper so...if i where you id go with them you really cant go wrong with either bassani or magneflow. hope this helped ive had just about every catback their is so.

Which borla mufflers did you have? And which magnaflow mufflers did you have? I wonder if the slp powerflo mufflers sound similar, not the loudmouth.

ok the borlas where stingers, im not sure about the powerflo slps never heard them on a car, im sure their a lil less bark though. the magnaflows im not sure what i had...evolution performance installed them when i had my turbo, im pretty sure though their the only ones that make a 3 inch exhaust...play it safe with with the magnaflows man you wont be sorry

I want to bite the bullet with the magnaflow but I really want to run a catted x and don't want it to be whisper quiet. Will it still sound good with the catted x pipe?

#6 ·
of those, id go MagnaPaks or Stingers... without a doubt.

full body Maggies too quiet, SLP sounds garbage IMO. XR1's are nice, but i like the Stingers and with a catted mid they should have a little more volume.

Would the stingers with a catted x be too loud for everyday driving? That's what I really want I just don't want my car to sound like I'm racing after every spotlight.

I had the same worry as you do. I didnt want the exhaust to be too loud for my dd. I have Magnapacks with a catted h-pipe and it is pretty quiet under 2000 rpms, moderate at 3000 rpms and loud above. My friend has a 2003 cobra with stingers and a catted x and it sounds good. not too loud at all. As long as you leave the cats on it will not be too loud. You can hear how they sound in the exhaust section on american muscle. Just play them through high quality speakers or the distortion will mess with the actual tone of the car.

no, they aren't that loud. Real nice, smooth tone. Sound great.

yeah stingers sound good but...lol terrible tips just terrible, thats enough reason right there to stay away, well unless you like the honda civic cofee can look that is then by all means...slp is not garbage they sound badass, my gfs mach has slps with a catted mrt h pipe id put that sound up against any borla anyday...its not even close. borlas sound like gurgly like your underwater, if you think thats better than the crack from an slp you need your head examined, seriously. go with the magnaflow dude, there not too quiet.

#14 ·
ive never noticed this on a NewEdge car and my friend has Stingers on his Termi... on the 94-98 car i dont like that look either.

#13 ·
dude, if you think SLP's, esp LM1's sound that good, your the one that needs a head examination and should rethink the Honda comment. Those things are akin to just cutting to muffler off a Civic. Sound decent under a freerev, but underload they sound flat terrible. Loud as hell, which is fine... but absolutely no tone. Just ear piercing noise.
Maybe the catted H is helping em some... and ive never heard PowerFlo's in person, that i know of.

SLP does have one of the nicest tips out there, double wall is ####, but past that... they couldnt pay me to run their CB. Ill stick with my SpinTechs.

to be bluntly honest the borla tips are shaped like metal dildos imho, now if you like that look of metal dildos protruding from your rear...then by all means get them, and while your at it...get that rainbow flag window sticker too, that way theyll compliment eachother while your cruising around. lmao

Can anyone explain how the sound is noticeably different between all these bullet type of mufflers? They seem so similar....perforated - packing straight thru.

sorry i missed this in all the BS... and i didnt see anyone else answer it so i will.

What makes the straight through mufflers different is actually a good bit... the number and size of the perforations, the orientation of said perforations, and some are just perforated and some look like cheese graters (these types dont flow as well and the normal perforations), the type of packing also has a lot to so with it... some use fiberglass and some use a stainless steel wool.
Also some of the bullet type of muffs are different diameters, some will have 2.5" in/out with a 4" round body and some will have the same 2.5" inlet but a 6" overall body diameter.

All of these attributes contribute to overall sound quality and dB level.

So as long as its a normal perforation straight through muffler, all will flow relatively similar... at this point its all buyer preference. Some like the DynoMax UltraFlo and some like Maggies, etc... all in your ear and what you prefer.

well you can keep your SLPs since ur the only one who thinks they sound good, and I'll keep mufflers that actually work AND sound good. I can show you many a thread and pm and email and youtube comment asking me about my exhaust because people wanna copy it.
they only ask if you have slp so they know to avoid it.

plus, if I were to ever see you on the street I wouldn't have to hear that slp anyways, but all youd hear is spintech lol... And I'd be on motor hahaha.

SLP is the ricer exhaust of the Mustang world... But tell yourself what you have to, whatever makes you feel beter. ;)

#37 ·
meh..first off i dont have slps so fail...and blah blah blah youd be on motor great. what does that have to do with this thread? where talkin mufflers not street racing..lol stay on target chief..your probably the same guy rollin around the streets with REO SPEEDWAGON blastin from your stereo with a cig hangin off your bottom lip with white shades on thinkin your a cool guy revin your motor in stopped traffic...come on you know thats you. lol

#39 ·
like I said... Whatever makes you feel better sweetie.

im actually glad you don't like SpinTechs, the less people that run em the more unique my car sounds. So you enjoy your 12 sec car supercharged car and I'll enjoy my, well, faster than 12s car. ;)

lol ok john force..great.. u do know that was my first pass and only pass right?u also realize you make more power, and im sure you have more exp.... i was happy with it, car makes under 400 hp..unlike yours,it runs faster than a stock 03 cobra ever did so...oh but there s/c to so that means automatically you have to run a 11 first pass....lol your a toolbag. i got a buddy runnin as fast as you with about 50 less hp:rolleyes:so...theres really alot of diff factors that play a part in track times, no shame in what i ran, i feel its a good time for what the car is so.:rolleyes:go back to thinkin your billy bad ass, cause of your unique exhaust tune..lmao question... do you roll your own cigs?

#41 ·
I don't think ima badass... But that old time in my sig was my first and only pass as well.

I didn't start talkin #### till you did... You pulled the billy ray cyrus out your ass before I said anything but an opinion on a muffler. You obviously have penis envy of your girls car since youre swingin off SLP nuts so hard.

So don't get your panties in a wad when I say stuff back, it's all in fun. You like SLP so much, buy some, I don't give a ####, I'm not driving it.

btw, question?? Wtf is a mod muffler? I never knew there were mufflers made specfically for mod engines. News to me...
