i just picked up another 93 coupe but this one has a 1970's 351w fuel injected
has allot of work done to it
but my question it has a canton deep sump oil pan i think its a 7 quart but i now have 8 quarts of oil and it still needs 1/2 quart more?
does this sound normal ?
this is my first 351w and first canton oil pan
i see a 15-670s etched on the pan, i did a quick search and it said its a 7 quart?
i am thinking it might have the wrong dipstick on it
any ideas would be appreciated

thanks
mike

Probably wrong dipstick. Empty the pan and fill to 6 quarts. Pull the dipstick and grind a new mark at the 6 quart level. Then add another quart and make a new line. This will give you a full level and a 1 quart low level. it doesn't take into account the filter and block.

Dip stick is probably stock, does the engine have a high volume oil pump? Does it have an external oil cooler? Does it have race clearance bearings?

If not, use it as intended, a drop sump to prevent windage, and simply use 5 quarts of oil. Mark stock stick at 4 quarts if there is anything showing, (probably not) and at 5 quarts.

The whole point of a deep sump pan is to get the oil down and away from the crank. It'll have an extra long pickup to compensate. Canton says 7 quarts for the system including filter, and you need to adjust/replace your dipstick accordingly.

6 quart would not even read the oil level so i added the 7th quart and it barely reads at the very tip
i think it is not the correct lenght dip stick
it sais canton on the oil pan and dipstick tube but sais made in taiwan on the stick and measure this side up ?
and the stick is shorter than my factory ford oil dipstick on my 302 stock oil pan and dipstick on my other 93 5.0 mustang ?
i know it does not have a external oil cooler,i is a 70's 351w bored 30 over with tfs alum. twisted wedge heads with tfs 1.6 roller rockers ,decent size cam (nothing to radical), downs box upper and gt40 lower, lontubes etc
but as far as if it has more internally ,i am not sure
it has full tubular suspension with k member so removing would be somwhat easier but i would rather not pull the oil pan unless i have to
i will look into canton web site to see if they have specs for the dipstick lenght and some more info on wich tube and stick i need

from the canton web site
the dipstick is universal and has to be adjusted for the proper lenght
looks like the guy i bought it from he never adjusted it he probably just bolted it on and went
i will call canton and verify this procedure.
on the pictures of their we site mine looks identical so i will drain the oil back out tomorrow and put back 7 quarts and adjust the dipstick as needed
i will keep you posted

thanks
