2.5 or 3" exhaust setup with my 351w? Standard stroke, bored 30 over. Super victor intake, and edelbrock rpm heads ported and flow 260 cfm at 500 lift. Street use daily driver.

I know I should use 3" for my 427W, but it's just not worth the hassle on a car I need to be able to drive to the dragstrip. I think people will tell you 2 1/2" is probably fine for 351W.

Every time I see actual dyno testing the bigger exhaust always wins (hp wise anyway). I know someone will jump in and say you don't need it and something about back pressure but if I was going to size headers and mufflers and everything else I would do it one time and go 3". Plus it gives you more flexibility in the future for more upgrades.

Had an exhaust shop do custom tail pipes less then $150 no clearance issues. Got a generic h-pipe from summit racing and that worked fine but I do have long tubes but once again I'm sure an exhaust shop would make short work of it.

Mine is loud no mater what size pipe is on it so I cant speak to that.

I would still do 3", better now then 3 years down the road when you would have to replace tons of stuff to switch. I doubt the loss will be 20-30 horse but obviously hp means something or you wouldn't have put a 351 in your daily driver...

just my 2 cents...

apparently it's pretty significant at ~600hp

So a 20' long exhaust system @ 614.2 FWHP with a 3" system loses 13HP to 601.2 FWHP when reduced to a 2 1/2" system? And they didn't re-jet to optimize the 2 1/2" system.

So if I assume my 14' 2 1/2" system is optimized (EFI) at about the same power level, I can expect about a 10 FWHP difference according to that test.

So maybe $800 - $1000 for an 8 RWHP gain?

Doesn't seem worth it compared to other mods.

(I'm pretty sure I made this identical post within the past year the last time this video was posted)

Most dont want their combo optimized cause in there opinion its not streetable, exhaust too big, not worth it etc. Then wonder why their combo is down a bunch of power in comparison.
