My buddy just bought a '98 cobra and the throttle cable is shot. Ford discontinued the cable so I was wondering if anyone has found a suitable replacement. Maybe a 2001 cobra throttle cable?

I have been through this with a couple customers. The cables are different. You need to find someone parting a 96-98 Cobra or someone "upgrading" to the 99-01 C heads and intake.

I was afraid of that. I am a machinist so I guess that I'll have make a new throttle cable bracket for him. The '99-'01 cable is 10 inches longer but I believe the mounting point is different. Only found one used one and they want $200.

I have never owned or looked closely at a '99 up cobra engine. I have a 2001 GT and the cable mounts to the bracket by pushing it into a square hole and then 4 push clips lock it in. The 1998 cobra has a metal flange built onto the cable and a single bolt holds it onto the bracket. So you '99 up cobra and bullit owners, do me a favor and go look at how your cable fastens to the throttle cable bracket.

My friend located one already so I am no longer in need of a cable. I would like to get to the bottom of this so I am going to look at a Bullitt this weekend but I am pretty sure it is going to have the newer style mounting procedure. I will then look into switching throttle cable brackets to see if the cruise and throttle will work correctly. If none of the above works out I will have a CNC at work punch out about 10 "adapter" brackets because I agree this is total BS on Ford's end.
