I haven't finished yet, but you'll need probably 60-100 sq. ft. depending on how extreme you want to get. I'd do 2 layers on the doors, one on the floor, and a couple on the trunk. Don't get dynamat, look into eDead, second skin, Raammat, FatMat, Brownbread, or b-quiet.
Here's some pics of the door:

I was going to have mine done, it was going to be roughly 100 dollars per door, 200 for the trunk, and about 100 dollars for the rear speaker area...So in all it would cost 500 bucks (for those of us who failed 1st grade arithematic. Prices included dynamat and labor...said labor cost so much because they have to prep your stuff before they lay the dynamat on, they have to clean it with stuff to make sure the dynamat sticks. With any stereo it would help to cut the road noise, and if you're pushing power it will help reduce speaker distortion. Good luck whatever you do!

Prepping it isn't all that hard. All you need to prep the surface is clean it really well with degreaser and finish it off with rubbing alcohol to make sure there's no oil on the surface. Before I deadened my entire doors, I installed the dynamat speaker kits and didn't even clean the surface first. When I tried to take it off after about 6 months, it took me about 10 minutes to get it off. Some of the dynamat alternatives don't stick as well, but dynamat extreme is extremely sticky, so even if you don't prep it perfectly, it'll still hold very well. Most of the time for me was actually laying out the mat and cutting it around the handle, etc. Putting 2 layers on each door took me about 6 hrs. or so.

I noticed a little less road noise and some exhaust noise. Most of it is probably less noise due to vibrations and rattles, and since I sealed up the holes in the door panel, I noticed a big increase in midbass, so it might seem a little quieter due to that. I'm putting some padding on the back of the plastic door panel and I'm going to see if that helps some exhaust noise when the stereo's off. I can't hear any road or exhaust noise with the stereo playing, but with it off, it's noticeable.

I just did my car last weekend. 1 layer of dynamat extreme over the entire trunk, and 3 layers on the wheel wells. I cannot hear my exhaust in the car with the windows up (stereo off) hardly at all. It is near non existant. I also did one layer on each door. The big key is the doors, wheel wells and sealing off the rear deck (package tray). Well worth the expense and effort. I paid $300 for 2 of the bulk kits at a local car toys. They are $250 each list, so it was a good deal.

I completely stripped my interior and put in 240 sq. ft. of eDead V.1 and V.2. You can look at my webpage at a bunch of pictures that I put up. I don't have the text done yet, so if you have any questions, you can email or IM me.

My Sound Deading Page

That much sound deadening cost me $240. I installed it with my roommate in the apartment parking lot. Very easy install, but gets boring real quick.

Definitely stay away from Dynomat, unless you get some kind of deal. If you pay much more than $1/sq. ft., you're ripping yourself off. Another product to look into is Peel-n-Seal. You can find it at your local home improvement store in the roofing section. This stuff is the same as every other asphalt based sound deadener and is a lot cheaper.

Also, if you're going to do it, make sure you do AT LEAST 2 layers. 1 layer is a waste and will not do much to keep out/in noise. It will reduce a few rattles and that's it. Layering is where it's at! :D

I just ordered 100 sq/ft of a dynamat replica and it weighs 15lbs. I also ordered an insulator material similar to carpet padding, and it weighs 7lbs for 50 sq/ft.

I should be doing my whole car today and tonight. I haved dumped exhaust and I'm trying to get rid of a lot of interior noise. I'll post back this weekend and let you know how it went.
