Where to find a 1/2" - 20 to 1/8" NPT fitting?

I want to move my autometer oil temp sender to the oil pan (where it should be, I know) and am looking for an adapter that will thread into the drain plug which is 1/2"-20 and into a 1/8" female npt ideally, or even 1/4". Also would having move the sensor too far away to where it would affect the reading?

Local hardware store may have them.

Try Summit Racing?

Holy #### snacks that's it! Having a 45* bend will be great so no part of it can be below the skid plate.

For anyone thats done this, will I need to run a ground wire for the sensor body or will the sender be fine despite the gasket?

Edit: the sae side of those fittings looks like an AN fitting, is that correct?

I'm not sure. Someone else would have to answer that.

It looks like ill have to a 1/2-20 to 1/4 but im wondering if having the sender not right inside the pan will make any difference? I dont think it would since I assume the oil temp is pretty uniform but thought id ask ayway. Also if anyone does find one with cheap shipping, please let me know as I like the summit source but dont need anything else at the moment

Thanks!

I don't think any of those fittings posted above will work for you.

The temp sender has a tip on the end that will have to fit through the fitting in the pan, right? All those fittings above are going to have too small of a hole in the center for the sender tip to fit through.

I take it you are trying to do this without having to take the pan off?

I think the only way you will do this is the way that the SC companies like vortech tell you to do to tap the pan for oil drainback, you punch a hole in the side of the pan and then tap it for a 1/2 NPT threaded fitting, then screw a 1/2 npt to 1/4 npt adapter into the hole and put your fitting in there. To keep the metal shavings out of the pan, as much as you can anyway, you load the tap with wheel bearing grease.

The best way of course, would be to pull the pan and have a steel fitting welded in.

Well the sender tip will def fit through a 1/8" npt otherwise how would one install it :D the water temp one I use is the same style and worked fine with an adapter that fit the plug in the coolant crossover tube. And yes its to avoid dropping the pan or tapping a hole on the side of the pan while installed. I think I know what you mean though and like my coolant temp sender the full tip isnt covered by coolant but still reads accurately so I know the entire tip wont be surrounded by oil but the end of it will and, like the coolant temp sender, would still provide an accurate reading. Certainly more so than in a bung on the coolant to oil cooler on these motors, which is where itis now and where I have the hose for the remote mounted oil press sender. Also I thinknthe pic is just a stock pic since the part im looking for has a larger male end than female end, unlike the pics shon.

Thats my thinking anyway and was wondering if anyone has done the same thing and had it not affect ground clearance.

Edit: I looked at the link and by looking at the features pdf was able to see they sell one with 1/8" npt as well. Not sure why it lists a drill and tap spec though...

Ive sent some emails out to confirm specs and hopefully get a pic of the actual piece since everyone uses that same stock photo as a straight reducer and its actually a 45* enlarger (or whatever theyre called). Assuming I can narrow that down then my only prob left would be sealing it but since its not tapered like an NPT thread, I might be able to use an o-ring since its made to bottom out the threads, unlike an npt thread.

Im not in a huge rush since im not due for an oil change for awhile but wanted to be ready, plus it might help others to avoid the same thing im trying to avoid which are the other two options already mentioned.
