I call BS on the 100 lbs savings claim. The factory K-member, A-arms and springs weigh around 150-175 IIRC. Taking 100 lbs off that wouldn't leave much left.

Maximum Motorsports K-member, A-arms, and coilovers take about 40 lbs off, others take off more, but 100? Like to see it...wouldn't want to drive in it.

Hahah, comparing to the MM one. Thats the largest, heaviest, most rigid K member on the market dude. I have a Racecraft Inc. Chromoly K and a arms. with sway bar delete, it was right at 100 lbs.

Racecraft Inc K-member weighs 20.8 lbs
Stock K-member weighs 51.0 lbs
Weight savings of 30.2 lbs

thats just the K. Think about losing springs off the front, weight from stock A arms, and sway bar. Thats going to be around 100 lbs.

I drive on my setup everyday, to school, around town, highway, it drives amazingly. My car weighs like 3100 lbs, the k member kits take off a ton.

 I would imagine something like a UPR/QA1 would take at most 75lbs off the nose.

I didn't wanna argue weight savings as i've gotten flamed for saying a rear seat delete doesn't "save" 75lbs before. It sure didn't on mine!

Of course, I tend to argue with people on the internet somewhat frequently. May just be me. ;)

Steed did say with the removal of the sway bar as well... i dont know how much they weigh, but i'd imagine if you pull the bar, brackets, and endlinks you could save 30+lbs alone... maybe?? lol

IMO when doing a tub K the cars goals should come into play... my 98 wont see many miles and its def straight line oriented, so UPR was ok with me. Not to mention its made for the Hellion kit.
If my car was getting a good bit of miles and/or curves itd have the beffier MM piece no question.

The front springs are around 25lbs a pair and the A-arms are around 50 lbs a pair. That's 75 lbs. So you could save 100 lbs...if you didn't run with any A-arms or springs

On a 99-04 the stock K-member, A arms, springs weigh 102lbs, UPR k-member, a-arms and coil over kit is 39lbs for a 63lb weight savings.

Here is a pretty big list of parts weights, stock and aftermarket.

For giggles I went back and checked my notes from my '92 5.0

K-member 49 lbs stock 36 lbs MM
Springs 13 lbs each Global West 3 lbs each MM coilovers
A-arms with balljoints 13 lbs each stock 7.5 lbs each MM

For a net savings of 44 lbs.

Looks like the ultra-light K and arms are 22 lbs less heavy, and the stock modular K is 9 lbs more heavy, for a net difference there of 31 lbs, on top of the 44 already accounted for, is 75 lbs.

The swaybar and brackets are 22 lbs, I have them in front of me as I type.

Well I'll be dipped, that's 97 lbs

I did miss the part about the swaybar removal earlier, sue me.

don't forget to move the battery to the back as well. tubular k member, a arms, battery relocation and drag coilovers do wonders for weight transfer at the drag strip... they also help a mustang to get closer to 50/50 weight distribution.... wait did i just say mustang and 50/50 weight distribution in a positive way? LMAO

bringing back from the dead

Griggs Kmember for fox without a-arms is 21 lbs exactly.

I took the weight at 8pm, high tide, half moon, rainy out, 72 longitude, between 1000 to 1500 above sea level.. Oh yeah I almost forgot Pluto is near Uranus today.

Cant sue me.. I have nothing but debt.:hammer:

Just to add to this as I didn't see QA1 listed, 48 pounds for K-member, with engine mount brackets, and both control arms mounted to K-member.

I know it's an old thread, but there's good information in this thread, I just added to it. :D

Weight Myths: SN95 K-member and Front Suspension
There are lots of numbers floating around about how much weight you can save when installing an aftermarket K-member, front control arms, and coil-over kit on the front of a Mustang. Although we've long heard the oft-cited, greatly exaggerated range of "between 75 and 100 lb," no one has ever published an accurate analysis of the achievable weight reduction.
Until now.
Below is a list of the stock Ford parts that are replaced with the typical aftermarket K-member installation in an SN95 Mustang. There are small differences in the weight of some of the stock parts, depending upon the year of the car. In this example, all of the parts listed are from a 2003 Mustang Cobra.
Stock 2003 Cobra Convertible Parts
Weight (lb)
K-member
52.25
Front control arms
14.5 each
Coil springs
9.76 each
Front spring isolators (all 3 pieces)
1.1 per side
Upper strut mounts
2.52 per side
Steering rack bushings
0.414 per side
Outer tie rod-ends
1.27 each
Total
111.4

Below is a list of the MM parts installed as part of an SN95 chassis K-member installation.
MM Parts for Mod-motor SN95
Weight (lb)
MM K-member
39.5
MM Tubular Front Control Arms
8.445 each
Hypercoil 2.5" springs (8" x 425lbs/in)
3.41 each
MM Caster Camber Plates
3.125 per side
MM Coil-over Kit (for Koni)
1.0 per side
MM Steering Rack Bushings
0.187 per side
MM Outer Tie-Rod End Bumpsteer Kit
1.47 each
Total
74.8

This particular combination of MM parts for an SN95 chassis Mustang provides a weight reduction of 36.6 lb.
Could more weight be removed?
Sure, there are companies that make lighter-weight K-members, dropping as much as an additional 18 lb. The potential weight reduction of 54 lb is still a far cry short of the often claimed 75-100 lb reduction.

I got my new TeamZ k-member and control arms for my 86 LX. The K member is 21 pounds, the control arms 6 pounds each, so 33 pounds total.
