VORTECH YSI 8 & 9 SECOND THREAD

Post up your ysi combo and if avaiable et,s mph..and dyno numbers.

i will start off.
87 gt, A4 block 342 , z 304 heads, c4 trans..3300 race weight..9.52 @140 with converter off and no brake, changing to another c4 this off season with trans brake and good converter...maby 8s...

~Untouched TFS Heads
~Custom Bob Kurgan cam
~TH400 w/ very wrong TS 9" convertor
~YSi 3.00/8.00 24 psig at 6600 RPM
~A9L with SCT chip tuned by Bob Kurgan

Went 9.21@149 with a 1.38 short time. Converter was way wrong. The car pretty much picked up no mph in top gear as I was driving through it badly. Should have kept it but got pissed and sold it all. Live and learn.

that car was a freak of nature LOL... and that stupid cut rollcage bar always cut me LOL

It probibly takes about a 550hp motor N/a to even be able to use a YSI so I would think every car with one would run 9's with any sort of traction!

This is a street car, no cage or even frame connector's, stock suspension. It's a 364ci 8.2, TFS TW's, custom Kurgan cam, FASTxfi, setup and tuned by Kurgan motorsport's. Made 849rwhp on Bob's dyno about 4 weeks ago and this video was last Sat which was the first time at the track with the car with my cousin driving. It only made 2 passes before the 4 year old C4 started slipping in hi gear but ran a 5.85 on both passes. It would have been a 5.70 or faster on the second pass but he let off before the 1/8 because the tranny was slipping.

It's the red car in the left lane...........

emissions legal twisted wedge heads, bowl work only.
tFS #2 cam
holley systemax intake
70 mm t-body
1 5/8 short tube headers and hpipe
good fuel system
c-4
3.55 gears,
3,350 pounds and run on et street radials
Full interior, stock fan and water pump, power steering and brakes.
9.80@138.5 on my second pass of true street.

I went 9.003 with a Kurgan tuned 347 and sct chip.

Went 8.89 at 136 coasting across the line with the BS3 tuned by Kurgan, car had easy 8.50's in it but we have since changed directions.

IMO if ya wanna go fast with a YSI then ya better call Kurgan, he is a genious on these setups!

I agree, cool thread. My YSi goes on in the next week or two.

I wonder what my little hatch would run with drag suspension on the Si trim. Gotta be good for 9's with 700rwhp/ 649 rwtq... Although it IS a 5 speed.

Finally Getting mine to the track for some testing--

Been to the track 4 times- 2 passes ea on the 1st 3 times because i was always breaking something! Have broke old blower brace bolt, starter, new powerglide etc-- has sucked....

Yesterday finally got some decent hits- its getting there but still way off.. Car rides in the converter for 2.3sec in low gear- then shift to high gear and it gains 200-300rpm for 2 seconds.. gonna have to get converter fixed... The tune has changed since we got the trans fixed- its lean in low gear until 6900 then goes pure fat- XFi is correcting 25%- bout got my VE table maxed- in high gear its getting closer- its taking a little fuel but good on AF--- this converter is putting a hell of a load on the motor and wanting a ton of fuel now!!!????????

On 275 mickey t. Drag raidal-- will be putting the new MT DR on soon!!

2.95/8.00 pulleys Serp w/ Kurgan Brace- with new brace i havent had to touch my belt- No slip!! Thanks BOB!!!!

No Innercooler, NO Meth, NO E85- on C16 w 300ish Discharge Temps
3200' alt. DA is 6000'+
60' 1.36
330- 3.88
1/8th 6.02 only 113-114mph- converter is killing me!
Weighs- 3300 w/ me in it!

Made 1054hp/858 tq with fuel problems on an engine dyno

Goes 10.2 @94mph when i let out at 1/8th mile and coast through 1/4..

The car needs to run 5.80 to compete in the local class but i think it has a 60-70 with the right converter- i also hava 2.85 and 2.75 pulley i can drop down to..


Heres an incar of one pass- will have some out car up soon..

Your car will run 5.80s easily these type of combos take time to get lined out one u get everything sorted out u will be good to go trust me then u will want to go faster lol.& dont be afraid to put the 2.75 blower pulley on there, thats the blower pulley i run
