Using cats and pump gas on your blower car

Hi All,

Looking to put together a combo with a friend, wanted to see if anyone had any comments/experience with it or something similar. Combo is pretty basic, is as follows:

stock 90 5.0 short block
Vortech S-trim
TFS TW heads
Holley intake
1 5/8" UE shorties
2 1/2" Bassani X pipe
2 1/2" Bassani cat back
stock fuel system with upgraded pump(s) and 42# injectors

It's going into a 90 Notchback, 5 speed car. Questions are, 1, we want to run cats on it to be emissions legal. Anyone running cats on their car, and if so, what is your combo, how much HP does it make, and generally what are your experiences using cats? 2, not sure what cam to run, but thinking about the Anderson B-21 or B-31. The S-trim will have stock pulley sizes with a powerpipe, will probably make around 10#'s of boost. We're not looking to make a ton of power, just good pump gas HP that'll pass emissions fairly easily when the time comes. What do you all think about that cam choice, or do you think there's something else off the shelf that'll work better? Lastly he has 3.55 gears in the car, how do you guys that use 3.55's like them? He was thinking about moving up to 3.73's, is the difference really even worth the bother?

Thanks

Are you using the factory cats or a high flow aftermarket cat set up? The OE converters will choke it pretty good. I have a VERY noticable drop in power when I have mine on the car.

With the b-31 & OE cats and a good tune maybe just over 400rwhp. High flow cats I would guess upwards of 450-475.

I know a guy with a simular combo that made about 465rwhp.

Hi, not using factory cats, will be using a Bassani catted X pipe.

Nice numbers there for your car, what cats and cam are you using?

Factory Cats and the cam specs are 234/244 @50 .544/.560 112(I believe of the top of my head).

I am running the Bassini catted x-pipe on my Saleen but unfortunately have not gotten the car back together with the new intake and retuned. I made with the stock heads something like 370rwhp and interesting enough with the Dart Sr heads I made pretty much exactly the same power. But both those were tuned with the stone stock intake on there and both were making 10lbs of boost.
