Tranny question...

Alright, here it goes...

My brother recently trashed my T5, and I need to replace it. Should I stick with a T5, or should I go with a 4 speed? I can get a 4 speed out of a older Tempo, but not sure if I should go that rout, since I will also be using the car on highway. I will be driving it for a few months back and forth to work, and I am not sure. What do you all think?

Also, if anyone around Southern Ohio could help me out with a tranny, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to all the responses that you all have.

If you want to keep the price low, stick with a T-5. You should be able to find them pretty cheap. I am on my second one, $250 for the first, and $200 for the second. Depending on what let go on the transmission you might be able to rebuild it for pretty cheap. If the cluster is hurt, then it is trash though.

Now if you want to fix the problem the "right" way, spend some extra money (a lot extra) and get a tremec 3550, or TKO. If you really have some money laying around, get a t-56. Do not get the 4 speed though, I dont even think that would work.

Right now, funds are kinda tight. I can get the 4 speed, for trading my AOD. I have a family friend looking for a T5, at a junkyard he works at, for 200.00 dollars. He hasn't found one yet, and I am needing a tranny in less than 2 weeks. I have to go out of town, and I don't want to take the GSX-R this time of year, on all highway. Gets kinda cold and tedious to go in a straight line for 2 hours. I also, am not sure the 4 speed will work either, but it is an option. Just an idea.

Sorry, I ment PENTO. I get confused when I am tired. It is an older pento with a 2.3 in it, and it should work. I got the T5 from a t-bird, and it bolted straight up. I also think it is my brothers problem, but he isn't going to do anything about it. There for, he will never drive my car again. Mine broke down, then he fixed his camaro. Go figure.

Well, I cant blame you for wanting to fix your car before you would ever even think about drving a camaro. Couldn't hurt to try the tranny from the pento, I know absolutely nothing about them, so I cannot be any help for you here--sorry. It would definately be a temporary patch though.

I don't think it will fit. A 2.3L and 5.0L don't share the same bellhousing bolt pattern.

If it's an SROD 4-spd you could tryi finding a 79-82 SROD bellhousing from a Mustang or buying a tremec conversion bellhousing.

You are better off sticking with the T-5
