For those of use currently in need of a longer speedo cable for a T56 swap, here are the only known correct part numbers. I say that to say this, D and D Performance advertise's that they "specially made for us" have T56 speedo cable's, price, $70. Here are my known part numbers and length's.
87-93 5.0 T5 Factory Speedometer Cable 71inch

1992 Ford F150 5.0 Speedometer Cable 92inch
Part#'s Y869 $10.96 Rock Auto
03236 $12.71 Rock Auto

These are the known extra long speedo cable's. I bought one from advanced auto, PN# 03175. It is 71 inch. It is the same length as the factory fox cable.

I don't believe so. I didn't do the install, but have helped with a clutch change & we just put in a stock 5L because the 327 dropped a valve. I dont recall any mods to the wires or vss. Ill crawl under there tomorrow & take pix

Only reason I ask I cause they are on the other side of the trans as well. Also, I am thinking of buying a heat shield tubing for the speedo cable as this car, same as my 93, burned the cable up. Long tubes do that easily, so does heat. It should not be too hard to find the stuff. I am going to start looking now.

I'll take pix for you. I have shorty headers. I know the speedos a tight fit. I unplugged the VSS as well when we were spring on the car (its plugged back in now). My car's no where near show car (dirty). Open track / DD abuse mule. Any possible lengthening is covered in dirt & grime & looks original to the car, lol. I never thought to even look. I will tomorrow. 03/04 Cobra t56.

I understand mark up but damn thats just highway robbery. Thanks for posting that.

I have a T-56 from a Cobra sitting in my garage but the conversion parts are insanely priced. :(

So how did the install go, I have a DD t56 in my fox , installed it about five years ago, speedo cable got fried by the exhuast and have been driving without a speedo since, would you recommend getting the 71inch or the 92inch, and did you route it over the top of the tranny, also thanks for the info.

You need the 92" one. Actually, with the splurge of good weather, I found time today to work on the car. I am going to swap out the t5 from my 89 vert with the t56 from my 93 as I just picked up a magnum t56 for the 93. It should work just fine. I tried over and over again to find insulating material that is 1/2" round to put it through with no cheap end. I will let you know as I go as my 93 is gutted, and this vert is all there. I am going to take out all the smog stuff, alot of other stuff to.

So far it is a go. We pulled out the t5 and put in the T56. I had a bunch of ARP head bolts lying around from a TFS install. The smaller ones are need as the factory units are too small. Again, I am using the early H series T56 for 5.0/5.8, a glorified 00R trans.

I used the HPM trans mount, and relocated two holes to use an energy suspension trans mount as rubber mounts with one central lower bolt worry me.

As far as I can tell, other then not starting from inside the car and still needing to finish up the exhaust, it will fit. There is a line on top in the front of the T5 that I do not know what it is. The other two, the speedo/VSS and the reverse light are needing to be extended and more plastic cover place on them. I have a 23.5" driveshaft that I got with my Magnum that I slid in, it fit. I bought the FMA T56 yoke and plan to have the FMS aluminum driveshaft shortened to 44" and have the yoke swapped out.

Ok got the trans and used saleen guages in, pro 5.0 shifter too. The cable fit and was a little long. We had to cut 1/2" off of the end of the cable to get it to fit in the speedo/vss plug. The speedo kinda gets a little jumpy, but it works. When I put in another set of guages I will update.

If I had to do it again, I would have rounded out the end of the cable housing, the metal cylinder that slides into the plug as it makes it easier to get in to pop in the clip. Also, I would have taken a file to 1/2" of the inner canble to make the square portion the same amount. Again, this is in an 89 fox vert that I installed a used saleen instrument cluster in. The car I think had the wires for the cluster moved around as the previous owner had my 93 cluster in.

Long term how is it working? Picked up a T56 trans/bell and need to get a x-member and speedo cable.

This post is gold. The cable worked perfect. Thank you Alexandros.

Mine jumps a hair at 60. Usually I grease them but I was in a hurry to get the car back together so it was installed dry. I'm almost thinking an even longer cable would be nice to help that 180* be a bigger radius out of the passenger side of the transmission.

I am in need of a new cable. 86 Fox body with T56. The old, squealing cable end that plugs into the transmission is fixed and cannot be taken apart. Where can find the adapter that plugs into the transmission and will accept the above mentioned cables? I am pretty sure I will need the longer cable as my engine is setback with a Griggs K member. My T56 is one of the earlier units sold by Ford Racing if it matters. I believe it was the same unit that went in the 2000 Cobra R. M-7003-F. Edit: I am only interested in mechanical operation and not electronic.
