My '97 has an odd popping sound comming from the rearend that just started recently. The car is running stock control arms both upper and lower, stock shocks, and "C" springs with 1 coil cut from the top as per the instructions included with the springs. The springs have been in for a good while now so I highly doubt that they are the problem. When I get the car rolling from a complete stop there is a "POP" that comes from the right rear it sounds like and you can feel it as well. Once the car is going I no longer hear it but if I stop again and then get the car rolling again it does it once more and so on. Seems like it makes this noise once the suspension is loaded up. If I really really slowly get the car rolling than I can't hear or feel it but anytime I take off just normal I can hear it/feel it.
Any ideas what it could be? I have made sure that things were tight up under there. What do you guys torque the control arm bolts down to?

are you supposed to cut a coil from the C springs before installation?
No you do not have to... But their is a loose sheet of paper included with the springs that says if they do not lower the rear or front as low as desired to take out a specific amount of a coil.... I know that people will debate the cutting of a coil but plain and simple the 1 dead coil in either front or rear will NOT affect the spring rate adversly.... I have talked to several suspenison experts about this and they all say the same thing...

On a different note, I took the car and went through everything in the rear tonight and discovered that the right rear, lower caliper pin was missing the protective dust boot around it and that it had rusted and siezed into the caliper bracket, well after a while of cleaning and lubing it up I replaced the dust boot and put it all back together and now NO more pooping....:joy: :joy: Good thing that I didn't over look that because it could have become a serious problem in the future...:D
