For those who are running a charger on thier stock 5.0....and when i mean stock I mean the stock INTAKE, CAM and HEADS. A few questions for you:

-How much boost are you running? How far can you go safely?

-Whats your fuel setup? Your fuel pressure and in tank pump size?

-your 1/4 mile time and HP numbers (if possible)

-What rearend gears?

I understand that the heads and intake are a major bottlneck, and prevents from some higher horsepower numbers.I am just curious as to how far can you push a TOTALLY stock 5.0 with supercharged boost.Unfortunately i have to sell my stang but i will be in the market for another next year.Im just doing my research way ahead of time.I am considering purchaseing a stock 5.0 and just throwing on a charger, but if i cant get some decent hp numbers i wont even bother.

I just recently added a novi 1000 to my 90 lx and the only mods are Mac 1 5/8 LT's ,2.5" catted H and a 2.5" Flowmaster catback. For fuel I went with a 255lph intank and I use the supplied fmu from paxton for now,and I'm using 3.73's. I currently have no boost gauge but I beleive I'm at least getting the advertised 5-6 psi and it runs good.I dont have any dyno or track numbers yet but it's way stronger from midrange right up to about 5500 were I shift. It's very comparable to a H/C/I combo except maybe not as good from a dig but it comes on quick once you go through the revs.Imo it is a good way to go and you can make good power if your willing to add a few extras.I know Anderson did a s-trim install article around 1996 for super ford or 5.0 magazine they used a bone stock lx and with just the addition of the blower the made a hair over 310 rwhp. They then managed to squeeze out 360 rwhp @ 8#'s with the addition of ignition, bigger mass air meter and full exhaust..A little over 400hp with added boost (10+psi ),powerpipe, cogged pullies and a vortech mondo aftercooler. To me thats pretty darn good I put more weight in the first numbers because most stangs already have aftermarket exhaust it's one of the first mods most people will do.In fact I think they actually had to put a stock exhaust sytem back on the test car just to get a baseline before they added anything.Anyway then all they did was add a meter and they were making 360 @ the wheels.I'd say thats pretty typical of what you can expect see and it's easily more than you'll get from a basic h/c/i combo, which you can always add later on as your budget allows.

Do it! I don't want to start a huge arguement, but the numbers with a blower will be better than your average H/C/I. I have seen several combos like mine(stock 5.0 frmo TB to oil pan with a S-Trim) put down from 320rwhp to 360rwhp.

-How much boost are you running? How far can you go safely?

I have the stock pulleys and see about 7-8pis at just shy of 6K. The powerpipe does help a little.

-Whats your fuel setup? Your fuel pressure and in tank pump size?

I have a 255 high pressure intake, and the vortech T-Rex inline fuel pump. I have 36lb injectors up front(with no FMU) and a Pro-M 75mm mass air meter

-your 1/4 mile time and HP numbers (if possible)

My best time is in my sig. I have only made about 8 passes with her on slicks(those being my first times out with slicks ever) and the times kept getting better and better. Finally I pulled that 11.9 with a 1.6 60' Those were done on stock axles, with no dyno time or tune, 3 hours from home. Yeah, not the smartest thing, but it sure was one hell of a ride!

-What rearend gears?

3.73 gears here. I think they are prefect. With a 26x10 tire, I cross the line just shy of 6K

Been runnin a old-style Paxton GSS (ball-driven) blower for the last 4 years at 6lbs. of boost.

I've got the stock injectors,stock intake,throttle body,heads,and fuel pump.
When I installed the Paxton,I used the FMU that was in the kit and have had no problems with pinging, denotation, etc etc.

I'm in the process of switching to a gear-driven Vortech here soon so things will be changing ;)

I run 3.73' gears in a built 8.8 and can tell you that you wont regret gettin a blower, the main thing is getting everything tuned correctly.

I've seen many people on this board, who bolt a supercharger on,and run the hell outta it and blow a headgasket right away and wonder what went wrong:rolleyes: Welp, they never fine tuned everything and went lean. Tune the car, then have some fun :)

I am running a stock motor with a s-trim pullied for 13lbs of boost. My additions to stock motor consist of 70 mm tb with intake ground to match, c&l 76 mm,30lb inj., electric fan,1 5/8 shorty headers, x-pipe straitline perfomance mufflers and msd 6al.Thats it no fmu no btm because both caused nothing but problems.Timing is set at 10 degrees, fuel at 38 with vacuum on.Im running a 255 intank with t-rex.
I am running stock 3.08 gears for now with stock axles both will be replaced next.
I weighed the car at the fun ford event in Atlanta it weighed 3340 with me in it(180lbs).
So far my best times have been.
drag radials 275 50
12.06 115.25 1.74 60 ft
26x10 slicks
11.96 114.41 1.67 60ft

By the way stock et was 14.2 at 98 so id say vortech makes a difference....:)

8lb pulley...see 10-11 psi during cold weather.

Purple Pony 90 said:

255 intank & Vortech T-rex

Purple Pony 90 said:

11.81 @ 115 mph (not tuned)

Purple Pony 90 said:

3..55 gears

Recently Dynoed the car... 363 rwhp with a crappy air/fuel curve that still is not fixed. It should be capable of another 15-20 rwhp wants the fuel curve issue is settled. The stock heads, cam, intake are a major bottleneck...power sharply fell off at 5500rpms.

thanks guys :D

thats certainly sheds light on how far you can push a stock 5.0.Im really impressed by the numbers that are attainable.high 11s to mid 12s is good enough for me.Im really interested in bolting on a SC to a stocker because (maybe im getting old) im just tired of lumpy cams and loud exhaust.I want a "normal" idle for once, and a "quiet" exhaust. No more off road pipes for me.Just give me a vortech SQ, catted exhuast and ill be happy.AC would be nice too .I would love to get the Hp #s that you guys are getting.Unless i can find something that fits my tastes, im probably going to go the stocker bolt on route...im not secure enough with my skills to to a HCI swap but i think i can handle a supercharger project.

Oh yeah, 3 more questions:

-what is everyones timing at?

-is anyone runnig a AOD?

-hows your gas mileage?

Thanks again.

My timing is set at 10 degrees.
5spd car with a motorsport clutch.
Gas mileage with mixed hwy & city was 250 to the tank (3.08 gears though).
I have ac,ps,cruise and even a stereo that weighs 150 pounds.
The only thing i have is the x-pipe that might make it louder than you would want, although with the straitline performance mufflers its too quiet for my friends taste but i love it.(walk softly carry a big stick)

I run with my timing locked out @ 23* no btm
T-5 for a tranny with 3.73's
If I'm concious of my mileage and I granny shift I can get 23 mpg
If I lay on it alot it's closer to about 17mpg
All in all not too bad but it is a stock long block .

-what is everyones timing at?

the initial is set at 12. The computer adds about 16 at WOT, and then the timing retard takes out 1 degree per psi(so 8 total) giving me a total timing of 20 degrees.

-is anyone runnig a AOD?

Not me.

-hows your gas mileage?

I pulled 25.6 or so driving home from running 11.93  Around town my average is probably about 16-18 depending on my right foot. I have seen as low as 12, but that was a bad week. I was pissed at school, work, etc and took it out on the car. Plus a cousin stopped by to check the car out. I had to show him what it could do.

I started with a stock motor, added the vortech and enjoyed it for 2-3 years. Last fall I did heads/intake/MAF/power pipe... boy did it wake up... this thing is a monster now. Seems like you are holding off on investing in the internals right now. you might want to consider getting your lower intake ported (do a search on TMOSS) for about $150. Centrifugals seem to really like low restriction at the inlet. Maybe consider a powerpipe and new MAF as well.

Well, with boltons I ran 13.37/103 1.91 60ft on ET Streets and 2.73s, launching at 5000. I added a D1 and made 16psi at 6K. It made 377RWHP with 19lbers(ran out of fuel at 4500), added 30lbers and made 387 with a/f at 10:1. Added a EEC-Tuner and made 413RWHP with 300lbs of TQ at 2100. Peak TQ was 425/4000, and she ran 11.40s/119. She still has 2.73s till this day.

I went to the track on sat. and ran 13.2 @ 105 with 255/50/16 dr's. 60's were in the 1.95 to 2.0 range so clearly there is room for improvement.I think I can safely say it should run 12's now if I could only drive hehehe.Previous best before the blower was 14.40 @ 95 mph.Imo the blower was worth every penny and I'm only running around 5-6 psi so there is alot of room to grow :)
