Is there any hope for me?! I'm looking for a forged 50 oz external balance crank to replace my stock cast. The reason I want to go 50 oz is because I have spent the money on quality parts such as billet flywheel and romac balancer. I also have forged rods and pistons. I was wanting to get a quality crank and switch everything into a dart block and add boost. What can I do?

use the cast crank until you can get the aftermarket block. the block will let loose before the crank gives. i would also at the same time as the block purchase get a internally balanced crank and loose the 50 oz weights on the dampener / flywheel at the same time

std weight doesnt mean 50oz. A newer scat can be balanced to 50oz, but you will be removing alot of weight depending on the bobweight. An older scat or one with a part number ending in "I" will be a alot of work balancing to to 50 as you will be remving a ton of weight. An eagle, or rpm internal balanced to 50 would also be ridiculous.

Okay so I think I might have to suck it up and take the loss. Maybe put in some over time. Just out of curiosity does trying to balance the crank to 50 oz affect its integrity? Also during my search I came across some older Hawk 4340 cranks that were balanced to 50 oz. What was the deal with those?

You can balance cranks to 50oz, they may end up with 8-9-10+ 7/8ths holes drilled in them because you have to remove so much weight from them because all the weight is on the balancer and flywheel.

Hawks never made cranks, usually chinese no name cranks. 50oz is not good, nor bad but certainly not preferred by any stretch.

Woody, do you still sell fully machined stock 5.0 blocks? I remember seeing them on your website in the past, but not any more. I ask because my son is doing a 306 and he will need to have his block machined or get one already machined.
