Cam matters for plug wire placement?

 

Yes. That's why the chart you referenced has different firing orders for HO and non-HO engines.

 

Noob question alert...

How do I know which one I have? Lol... I'm new to stangs.

 

Ecam is HO firing order. 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 In the picture of mine below, the #1 plug is positioned a little before 12 o'clock (closest to the first runner of the upper intake); #6 is just a bit after 6 o'clock. Distributor rotation is counter clockwise.

 

 

thank you very much for that. That is how I have it setup now, but still no start. It just cranks and then does a small backfire when I stop cranking.

any ideas?

 

Did you move the distributor? Is your timing way off? Coil wire installed? Coil take a crap? IDK...just throwing stuff out there.

 

Took a guess and got lucky. The original owner stabbed the distributor 180 degrees off. I put the plug wires on "backwards" and it started right up.

 

So did you restab the distributor?
