I do have a towing policy, but I still prefer to keep a spare tire in my vehicles for my reasons.
I previously had a 17" Cobra spare, but found it would hit the caliper unless I used a large spacer. That created rubbing issues. I'm looking at options for a bolt-on single wheel that I can run front or rear that will easily clear my brake calipers and not require spacers or swapping wheels front to rear.
One option is a S550 spare tire, which is 18" but it looks like clearance might be an issue with brake kits like Brembo's or the Baer 6P caliper.

Looks like S550's with Brembos can go with this option to clear big calipers. Downside is the cost.

Thinking outside the box a little, I have a spare 1998 Cobra wheel that easily clears the brake kits I run. My thought was to send it to Weldcraft to chop it down to 5.5" and run a standard passenger car 205/55/17 tire. It would clear my brakes, have a decent speed rating in case i have to go on the highway, match my rear tire size and tuck down better in the spare tire well than a full size 17x8 tire. Downside is cost of having the wheel narrowed.
Any other options that folks have used, other than call AAA or fix-a-flat?
