I feel terrible now. There was nothing wrong with the car that I know of.

The only thing is that I took off a timing adjuster and sold it a few days before.

Could it be that?

I want to help this guy out so he doesn't feel like I duped him.

Should I just tell him to take off the battery cable and reset the cpu?

Could it be a bad tank of gas?

I called the guy and asked him if it was driving fine, and he said that as far as he could tell there was nothing wrong with it. The guages worked properly and were in the right spots and there wasn't any wrong feeling.

Crap! I know he is worried that he got a lemon now.

your car just misses you lol.

I think the gas cap thing my be the problem. The frist time my wife drove my car she put gas in the the engine light came on. I still don't understand why the gas cap light didn't come on.

The gas light comes on if the gas is low well atleast on yours does my 1998 doesnt nor does the seatbelt light. Anyways the reason the check engine light comes on is because it is a emissions hazard. You are supposed to have a certain fuel pressure and when your gas cap is off you start to lose that pressure. Just let it sit overnight and get cold and once you start it up it should be off. When i changed my stock airfilter to a K&N that tripped off my mil and I couldnt sleep at all that night. By the next morning it was off and now my offroad pipe keeps it on.

My car has a check fuel cap light too. The low fuel lights works.

Well, I haven't heard from him since yesterday afternoon, so maybe everything is ok.

I didn't sleep well last night hoping that everything cleared up for him.

I like the comment about my car missing me, that's great.

Hopefully it was nothing.

just curious but did you reset the computer/disconnect the battery after you took the timing adjuster off? If not, that is probably the problem. Mine tripped a check engine light also because the crank sensor was moved and after a reset it went away.

rancid,

I think you may be right. I haven't heard anything negative again from the guy after I told him to try resetting the cpu.

I didn't reset the cpu after I removed the adjuster, so I bet you are right and it tripped a code because I moved the crank sensor.

Sorry next time I will change my signature just to accomodate your lack of patience when you scroll down. LOL but yeah I was reading on all of the codes you can put in and I went kinda crazy.
