Slow Cranking Condition

Ok, a little background first. I bought this car back in October. The car ran fine but would crank slow occasionally like the timing was too high, usually when hot. For the past 9 months the car has been getting an overhaul. I went through everything except the engine and trans. I popped a new started in it too. Today I went to start it and it cranks real slow, so slow it wont start. I assumed the battery (optima red top) was dead from sitting for 9 months. I hooked up jumpers and while it cranked a touch quicker, it was still not even close to fast enough to start it. The battery is in the trunk with 1/0 cable running from the positive terminal to the cut off switch, then to the front of the car to the starter solenoid. The ground is 1/0 to a spot in the spare tire well. 2awg cable runs from the solenoid to the starter. I have a few grounds going from the chassis to the engine. I am lost. I picked up a 600A jumper pack but I am pretty sure I will see the same result from it. I am half tempted to run a new cable to the starter and replace the solenoid. Maybe also make a big ass ground to go from the chassis to the engine. Any suggestions?

Oh yeah, I know vapor lock is a common answer but this is not the case since the car has not run in 9 months. Also you can rule out timing too advanced because I disconnected the coil with the same result. Any help would be appreciated.

so what did you end up finding out when you did the the tests that MFE found for you?
I just started having this problem recently but at least my car does eventually start. I had just installed a tubular k-member and while in there, I put in some extra grounding straps. I figure mine just has a loose connection somewhere. same issue though only when the car/engine is hot........and heat does create more resistance in electrical circuits.

I'm interested too. I've got a rear mounted battery using far less gauge (2ga welding cable), but my 351w turns over just fine except when its hot. I see where you added the NEG from the battery to the block. I don't have that and haven't needed it to this point. If you had a ground issue I'd like to see what additional grounds made the difference in your set up. One thing I've noted with mine slow start issue is heat soak. Have you considered that?

RESOLVED SLOW CRANK/NO START ISSUE
I had the same issue. I changed nearly everything I could think of that would cause a slow crank/no start issue (battery/starter/throttle body/clean wires/check fuses etc) The issue was the crankshaft position sensor ($18 value) and the car started right up no problems. I also changed the camshaft sensor at the same time as well. Hope this works for you. I am here to share to as many people as possible. Goodluck all.
