what kind of setups are you guys running with a single turbo? I'm looking at the on3 kit for my car with a t76. I know that one option is to run a Y pipe after the down pipe to the catback, I would need a bigger catback because the 2.5 isn't going to be enough for the numbers I want to make. Another option would be to run the downpipe back to a single muffler and dump it. This would be cheaper but we all know that isn't always the better. What do you guys suggest to run? I'm also wondering how the sound would be through a single muffler, probably a 3.5" one. Anyone input would be nice.

Heres a vid of my car, i dont have 3.5 inch exhaust, just 3" but its run from the turbo to in front of the rear axle and i have a dumped hooker max flow.

Its a different sound than the classic dual exhaust mustang sound, i kinda like it, its different and with the turbo its pretty quiet compared to normal mustang sounding car.

Its a long video and has some idling and some from in the car maybe that will give you what your looking for. FWIW its a simple exhaust, ive got a v-band connection near the bellhousing and one before the muffler, so i can have the exhaust out from under the car in a few minutes bascially.

You think the 3" is big enough with a 76 mm turbo on a 5.4 4v?

I kinda like the idea of the sound being a bit quieter, as much as I love loud exhaust, I'm getting older and starting to want something a little quieter for my street car.

Have you seen outlaw motorsports set up.
nope, got a link to it?

i run single 3" form the turbo back to a single 3" dynomax race bullet. here is what that sounds like.

that one sounds pretty sick, I just haven't seen any modulars with the single exhaust yet. I'm trying to keep it from sounding too raspy but the extra cubes might help with that.

yea just talked to somebody who drives a turbo v6 and he told me to run the y setup that everybody else runs with a 4" downpipe and 4" cutout on it before the Y so I can keep my 2.5" catback with no issues and then pick up quite a bit of power when I open the cutout, electronically.

I run a 3in down pipe into a x then into two 3 in pipes to a set of Morose spiral flows sounds great but I have been having backpressure issues for awhile I am seeing 5psi. in the down pipe with not mufflers at all so I am gone to move up to a 3.5 or 4 if I can find the room this is with only 306 cid which is strange the 3in should be enough but it don't seem to work with mine so I would as big as you can fit..

I have two cars with the On3 70mm turbo kit. One car has the On3 Y pipe and a 2.5" flowtech catback w dumps and the other has a custom single 3" pipe with a single Flowmaster muffler that dumps before the axle. I prefer the car with duals. It is quieter and has less resonation. I can hardly stand to drive the car with the single exhaust on the street. It is very loud and has an annoying resonation at low speeds. Going to order an On3 Y pipe and switch to duals soon.

Thanks for the input, think I'm gonna go with that 4" dp into a 3" catback, probably mac. I think that should give me enough flow without losing too much backpressure.

im running a 3.5" downpipe into a custom y pipe then off to a 2.5" dynomax ultra flow catback. my car is extremely quiet and all you hear is the turbo spool and the blow off valve when driving the car lightly. Once the go pedal is smashed its a whole other story since my wastegate is vented Ill see if i can post a sound clip

How much power are you going to ultimately shoot for? I know my 2v isnt making much power, ~400wheel on just a complete single 3" to the back axle. I built a y-pipe into it so I could run an electric cutout thinking that it would free up some power from the exhaust restriction. After getting it tuned, we flipped the switch and did one last pull to see what we picked up. Results, we lost 3hp in a few areas mid-range and I think it was down 1hp peak.

With that being said, I think just a single 3" back that is free flowing with a good muffler will work great in most situations and I think it sounds really clean. I had flow masters on the car before and as most say, they eat up power and dont sound the best on turbo cars. My cobra going together right now will have 3" back and then split to dual 2.5" just as it comes in the kit. We are shooting for 600 wheel on that setup and should hit the dyno shortly if all goes well with it. Ill keep you posted on that too if interested

What would be good turbo muffler then? Iam thinking for my set up iam gonna do 3.5dp to the muffler the Y out of that into 3inpipe to my roush side exit exhaust

I know and we have seen the 3" back to dual 2.5" setups make 680-710rwhp. Im not going to push the Cobra quite that far so I wont be able to get you any data past 600~ for the time being. It might start being a restriction at that point but it wont cause any issues really. If it were me and wanted to go bigger, I would just do 3.5 to the back axle with a magnaflow muffler and turn it down there. Personally I like the single exhaust and think it sounds good, thats how I have my 2v setup right now but its just 3" all the way. I ran a race bullet before the magnaflow though as it cut out any of the raspy noise it has a little before doing so

So is turbo exhaust kinda like N/A it's more of a sound thing with only minor diference in HP and TQ then?

How do you know if you have the right amount of back pressure?
