Do you guys think Ford will come out with 1 step up called the:
Shelby Cobra GT500KR like in the old days. KR for "King of the Road".
I wonder if the Shelby Cobra will be offered in convertable. Just sitting here dreaming. . . .

The one thing that Ford won't do is let any Mustang be competitive with the GT. So that doesn't leave much room between the GT500 and the GT. One possibility is a 5.0 Cammer motor instead of the 5.4 supercharged. It would give better overall handling because of reduced weight, but at the same time put out similar hp numbers to the 5.4 supercharged.

A better fitting name for such a Stang would be BOSS instead of GT500KR. The BOSS would be better suited to road racing and the GT500 better in a straight line.

I disagree, if this new gt500 is actually gonna sticker at around 40-45, then there is plenty of room in between 45g's and the GT's price tag. a step up model of the GT500 could probably specifically aim at the new z06 and viper, but i think this shelby's going to be able to do that anyway. performance wise, i still think there is going to be plenty of room in between the 2. I'm not quite sure Ford's point with the GT was to make tons of bucks, so its not like they have to worry about not selling them b/c a newer top end shelby gt500 which can compete with the GT can be had for less.

You can bet the price is gonna shoot through the roof if it becomes a 1 or 2 year car like the 03-04 cobras when 'ol Shelby hits his final resting place which doesn't look to be too long from now.

I tell you what would be BEAUTIFUL...A new Cobra R. One with the BOSS V10, like tested in Muscle Mustang and 5.0.

I do agree with Bryan, we need a step up specialty Mustang between the Gt and the Shelby.

I'll bet that a 'vert will be offered in the Shelby package. If it was referred to as anything but a 'KR', it would be just plain wrong. I think I'm going to start saving now for a Shelby. I just hope that the dealers don't put a RANSOM on them, like I think they will. We all remember what they did to the sticker price of the 2000 R car. You couldn't touch one for less than $100k for a LONG time. It's just wrong what the greedy dealers do. BUT some people will pay the inflated price just to be the 'first' guy in town with the new Mustang.

The wife gave me the big O.K. on the Shelby  . I plan on selling my GT and saving some cash to make it do-able (and even then the payments will be higher than my original '93 was). This is going to suck waiting over a year. It would really bother me if I buy the GT500 than the next year they up it with a KR or something for 2K more. These are the things that happen to me. I wonder if they will be offered in a different color than red. I would like Silver with black strips or Black with silver stripes.

I agree that there is a lot of room price wise, but I don't think they want to have a Mustang close performance wise.(that is what the GR1 and Cobra concept are for) I think if any Mustang will close the gap, it will be a new CobraR.

I don't see them making anything higher. 450hp in a stock mustang is about all you'll get until they have some compitition from GM or MOPAR. I think a cheaper version like a GT350 is a more viable to fit in the marketing gap in price.

I'd like to see that myself, it would be closer to what I could afford anyway.

Hi, I work for Dale Jarrett Ford near Charlotte, NC. Our policy is to not mark vehicles up over MSRP. Ford is saying they are going to build plenty of the GT500's. I do know that a lot of dealers are telling prospective customers that they will mark them up. We are the largest Ford dealer in the area. We are SVT certified and Rousch certified. If you need something, email me at cwillden@dalejarrettford.com and let me know what you want. BTW, we currently have two remaining 04 Roush convertibles that we are heavily discounting if anyone is interested.

The 5.0L cammer isn't a suitable replacement for the GT head/twin screw 5.4L by any measure. It's pathetically weak for what it is (needs more cam) and when modded the difference only balloons. Ford's had big bore 305s running around for 10 years already, if they were going to stick them in a production car it would've happened already.
Off hand I think it would be extremely interesting to see a N/A GT head VCT 5.4L in another Mustang. The torque plateau would be unreal.

Lots of marketing plans out there for some high HP cars, but let's see what happens if gas does hit $4.00 per gallon this year like some of analysts are predicting could be the case. $105 a barrel for crude. That might put a real damper on our fun.
Let's tap Iraq,

So 600hp out of a S/C cammer is weak? 440hp/400 N/A is very respectable to me. The weight savings would make up for the lack of power.

So we're seeing the STRONG possibility of the GT 500 w/ 5.4l DOHC S/C
They'd have to offer a GT 350 with either a hopped up 3V or a blown 3V

Kinda to take the place of either the Bullitt or Mach1.

That's a big jump b/t a $25k 3V GT, and a $40k Gt 500. Dead middle of the road is a $32,000 specialty Stang. For $7k, the base Gt could DEFINATELY see an Eaton S/C, a little suspension, and a few subtle exterior enhancements.

Anyone agree with me on this rationale?

That's just it, you're never going to see a N/A cammer in production (FRPP doesn't offer a warranty on the cammer and Ford wouldn't either) let alone a blown version. The bore spacing is killing us. If you resleeve with 3.70" cylinder liners there's simply not enough meat left between the bores to keep the block from flexing. For obvious reasons this situation would be even worse in forced induction applications. Obviously Ford understands this by now, hence no 5.0L cammers in production.
To answer the question, 600 flywheel HP out of a 5.0L cammer with blower is WEAK, as is 440 flywheel HP out of a N/A version.

Well guys I sold my 94 and have 10k Saved I sold it for $16k with all the goodies and new AEM. only had 7k miles on motor and new S/C setup with 0 miles on blower and AEM.

By the release date hopefully I can pick one up in black. I'm definately looking forward to it.

I think that a couple of you have the right ideas...

A new Cobra R would be a logical choice for the ultimate sports car Mustang. This would be a direct Z06/M3/Viper competitor. I'm sure it would have similar power to the GT500, but even better handling (race specific parts). I'm sure it would be in the upper $40's and limited production.

In my opinion, a sure bet is a Boss or GT350 named Mustang that is b/w the GT500 and GT. Some engine/power figures have been tossed out in another thread (NA 5.4L or SC 4.6 3v - 350-375 hp) that seem plausible. I will be looking for this car myself. When can we expect this car to go on sale (2007/2008)? Ford definitely has the market right now for modern muscle cars.

Watch out for that darn Charger... not!

The new SVT chief stated in a press release that other mustangs will come out besides the Shelby, which include Bullitt, Boss,

I prefer a N/A 5.4 BOSS 302 personally
Wouldn't that be more like a BOSS 330 or BOSS 5.4?? They couldn't very well call it a BOSS 302 IMO.

I am seriously thinking of buying one as well. I am just wondering if I should hold off until the car is a year old, as I am not prepared to pay a premium over and above the MSRP.
