looking for some info here on rear ends.

i have widebody front and rear fenders for my 2000 AIX car im building. and run 18x10.5" wheels all the way around. so rather than using 3" wheel spacers which is super impracticable, i was looking to do this

what im thinking is getting a GT500 rear end since it already has 31 splines axles etc. and is wider than a 99-04

anyone know what the difference is? i found 2 inches after searching around on google for quite a bit

and i plan on running a griggs watts link, which i dont see why it wouldn't bolt up and be compatible with a S197 rear end.

and figured i could locate the rear end wherever needed using double heimed lower control arms made forthe correct length

and was going to use a maximum motorsports torgue arm which should bolt the the axle tubes on the S197 rear end unless they are different for some reason?

just looking for some thoughts and info here

thanks

The 197 rear uses larger axle tubes I think. I don't think MM makes a torque arm setup yet for the 197 chassis but I could be wrong. Cortex racing does make one, you'd probably have to fabricate the front mount. Call Filip at Cortex, he could help you out. Nice guy, easy to get in touch with.

Run the longer lower control arms on the rear, ala World Challenge Arms. And a SLA up front. By widening the front track you can get nice geometry with longer upper/lower control arms. When I raced a fox in AI I made all my stuff, I had a 74.5" track width up front, 74" in the rear. I think my lower control arms were around 29" but it's been a while. I ran a DIY 3 link though. BTW, I used 2" rear wheel spacers on each side with no problems.

Sounds like a fun project... Good luck!
