Pro-M Racing High Flow Fuel Pump Hanger for 1986 – 1997 Mustangs!
Finally, a real solution to the Mustang fuel pump hanger problem!
The aftermarket has been selling high volume fuel pumps for Mustangs for many years. But until now, no one has addressed the other half of the problem...
The 1/4” return tube in the original hanger cannot flow any real volume of fuel. At idle and cruise, the engine’s fuel demand is very low, and the vast majority of the fuel being sent to the engine must return to the fuel tank. The fuel pump will attempt to deliver it’s rated volume of fuel regardless of engine demand. So if we are using a 255 lph pump, nearly all of that 255 lph of fuel needs to return to the tank via the return line. If we need a 3/8” line to get 255 lph of fuel to the engine, don’t we need that same size line to get it back to the tank? We absolutely do...
These days, fuel pumps are available in 340 and 400 lph versions as well, making the need for a properly sized return line even more critical. If the fuel cannot pass through the return line at a volume at least equal to the feed line, then the fuel pressure regulator cannot properly do its job, the fuel pump cannot move the volume of fuel that it was designed to move, the fuel pump cavitates, resulting in air being sent through the fuel lines, and premature failure of the fuel pump.
Fuel supply problems also show up in the form of drivability problems, fuel starvation, and eventually engine failure. The Pro-M Fuel pump hanger solves three major issues with the stock hanger:
  1. Both the feed and return lines are 3/8 diameter for proper fuel flow.
  2. 6AN fittings are used for the fuel line connections, allowing direct connection of 6AN fittings to the Pro-M hanger. Adapter fittings are available to connect 6AN fittings to the stock hanger, but they are as restrictive as the stock hanger itself.
  3. The return tube goes to the bottom of the tank, eliminating a serious design flaw in the stock hanger. The return tube in the stock hanger sprays the return fuel onto the surface of the fuel in the tank. Not a big concern with the original 88 lph pump. But with larger pumps, this causes aeration of the fuel in the tank, resulting in aerated fuel being sent to the engine.
Other companies offer stock replacement hangers with AN fittings attached to the stock 1/4” return line, but NO ONE ELSE OFFERS A HANGER THAT RESOLVES ANY OF THE REAL ISSUES.
If you are using a 255 lph or larger in tank fuel pump, you need this hanger!

Hopefully it is a just a website glitch. When I went to Pro-M's website just a few seconds ago, it did still show $199.99. I then came back to this thread and clicked on the link above and somehow the website price changed to $399.99.

I knew I paid around $200 plus ship etc. but couldn’t recall for sure!? But I went to the website to get the link and thought damn. I priced it based on that. Apologies for the confusion. I have edited the ad.

I think that would depend on the size of the tubing in your current hanger. If its smaller than the fuel lines then swapping to the high flow unit would be an improvement? If its the same size then you would not see much benefit I suspect. I honestly dont know what size the fuel lines are in the various years 86-97. But they would need to be 3/8 in order to see the full benefit of the high flow unit.

I just measured my stock lines in my 97 cobra 5/16 feed and 1/4 inch return I can’t wait to get this on!!!! I’m going to do away with the factory fuel filter and just put an inline stainless 10 or 30 micron filter and hook into my stock rail it should help a ton thanks again.
