Hi all-

I'd like to know a general consensus of ballpark ring gap recommendations for a supercharged application?
I currently have a Dart 331, with forged DSS Pro-lite max quench pistons, and Moly E-458K rings.
The car should see 10-13 psi from the supercharger once finished.
Any suggestions?

Thanks.

I like .026 on the top ring and .028 on the second ring but am sure
you will get many different opinions.

Thanks for the input. Right now, they're at .018, which I believe to be a bit tight for a boosted car.....

.024+- is basically what the machine shop was looking at, instead of the .018 gap. Unfortunately, I don't have any specs on recommended ring gaps from DSS in their build sheets. Only info they supply is the part number of the rings and pistons.
Thanks for your reply.

i put mine at .018 and haven't had any problems. i know thats tight for a boosted car, but the guy that helped me build mine knows he's stuff. my car has been running for almost 5 years now with no engine problems at all. i have a novi 2000 at 9psi. if u were going to run alot of boost i would losen it up more! just my 2cents

I think some of this comes down to the type of ring, and as you mentioned, boost level. While the rings would probably hold in mine at .018 as well, I think that the shop that I'm working with is simply trying to create a better chance of longevity, especially since I'm looking to run more boost in the future.

+1 for type of ring and also type of piston. Some pistons will have a higher silica content and thus have diffferent expansion characteristics compared to others. One reason you so seldom see forged pistons in OEM engines is that they do expand more than a hyperutectic unit. I dont know much specifically about the DSS pro-lites, but some general info about recomended ring gap is basic support information they should have if you call.
