hey;

i just ordered a set of shorty headers for my car, and i'm curious about what kind of fasteners/gaskets i should use. bbk ships a set of gaskets with their headers, but are the stock gaskets better? also, i don't want any leaks out of this bad-boy, so i was wondering what kind of hardware would keep it nice and snug to the head. thanks!

Stock gaskets and nuts will work fine..My longtubes have been on for over 4 years with no leaks..And the gaskets have been reused a few times with no problems..

well, i unfortunatley had porblems, firts the gaskets that were provided for the ford motorsport shorty headers blew out on #8 , then I got stock gaskets , yes the driver side has two, , no problm, but, i decided that the differnet in thickness of the two made me purchase Percy's Dead soft Aluminum headers gaskets, nope, keep leaking, even after retightnening, oh, the previous owner removed the studs and used bolts. well after the third time of retightening, i grabbed some shake-proof washers , well this time, i literally blew the gakets apart on the rear side of # 8. well now i grabbed fel-pro ultra seal gaskets for now.

I used the gaskets that came with the BBK's. I have had no problems with them. I did get some Stage 8 bolts but found that in some positions they were too long to use so I had to use the stockers.

yeah i just ordered bbk, and while my motor is being swapped i figured i might as well get a set of headers on the car. anyway, bbk comes with gaskets and hardware, but i was just wondering if it would be a good idea to use stock gaskets. it looks like people have had varying degrees of success with all different types of gaskets. timiit71, your story is awful. how hard is it to change a header gasket if it blows? it's not as bad as a full header install, is it?
