Nitto Tire Questions

Ok, i'm about to order some rear tires for my car. Mind you, I drive it EVERY DAY, but I still want a "drag radial" so I don't spin so much when I have to race that other car. I plan to put new tires in the rear when Fall gets here again too.

Anyhow, what's the difference between the Nitto NT555R (regular drag radial) and the NT555R II Extreme????

The price is about the same.......they're the same size. Which should I get?

Basically both tires are the same, same tire pattern and compound, however the RII's have a reinforced sidewall for road racing. The regular R's (Drag Radial) have a slightly softer sidewall that is meant to wrinkle up when running low tire pressure. This helps with high RPM launches by absorbing the shock that you give the tires when launching hard.

Ok, next question. If they don't have a soft sidewall, will they still fit 8 inch wheels?
It depends what width tire you want. I think you'd be safe up to 265s on the stock 8" rim. Although I have seen people use 275s, those were DRs and were mostly used to race.

That's just it, they don't make it in 265. I know guys running the regular DR's in 275 on 8 inch rims (not stock, mind you..aftermarket but still 8 inch). don't know about the new extreme 2's though.

I just got my new Nittos 555 DR's 275/50/15's put on this past weekend (have run them in the past) and love them so far. They are a good decent tire and ride pretty nice on the road.

I use the stock 245/45 17's. They fit fine. However, im very very dissapointed with the nitto's. After about 3000 miles of regular street driving (NO BURNOUTS whatsoever...) they are almost wore down all the way... i hope they last long enough to go to the track.

It seems everyone in this post really dosen't know a lot about these two tires. I have had both NT 555 R's and NT 555 R II's. First of all they are both considered a drag radial. The main differences are the regular 555 R's are a little tighter tread pattern, and a little harder compound. the 555 R II's have a bit more spread out tread patter and are EXTREAMELY soft. If you look at Nittos ads in the trade rags the say the II's are for race and 555 R's are street.

By soft I mean it sucks up rocks and stuff really easy. They stick big time. That is on hot sticky pavement. They suck in the rain. Now that I have the II's I can just bairly get 2nd to chirp where I used to spin sideways in Second.::lol: \\\
