New buildup underway. I am having my TW 170's ported w/ competition valve job as well as milled to 56cc for a final compression of about 10.4:1. The idea is to get them to flow around 285-290 cfm to match up with the also new TFS-r long runner intake with accufab 75mm tbody and 90mm LMAF, and 4" anderson powerpipe. Which cam would you recommend with this? I am at high altitude and i want this thing to run hard to a 6500 RPM shift point. Also got some new AFM .600 lift hr valve springs i would like to use. I think the N-91 might be a tad big for my intake but i thought i would throw it in to the mix.

I drive this car 2-3 times a week. It sees the track 8-10 times a year. Its just for fun!

Opinions?

cam

I have run all three of these cams in the same 331 several years ago. For what you are doing I would stay away from the N-91. I like the Anderson cam but the N-71 still lopes pretty high in the RPM and doesnt have as much low end torque as the 282 but was faster at the track. For street use the 282 is my opinion and for track and lite street the N-71.

For what you're looking for the N-71 would fit perfect I think. I'm running it in my '87 LX. 331 w/195 cc Canfields, Vic Jr, 750 Double pump Holley, 4:10 gears. Definitely not too much cam for the street. Makes good power well past 6500 rpms. I shift mine closer to 7k.

made 6 passes i think. all were just test runs to see what mph it was making. so 60' were all around 2.0's. best was 13.62 @ 104 with drag radials short shifting at 5300 rpms. passes were all made with 4000+ DA. Had a problem at 5400 rpms. felt like a rev limiter. it did it on the dyno as well. it would hit 5400 and then...dat....dat...dat....dat! pretty sure it was valve springs. it had old trick flow springs rated to .550 lift. anyways....car didnt feel at all what i was hoping for, so i decided to go ahead and change some things.

306 plus the n91 in my old combo with tw heads and a stock victor efi ran 11.80s-11.90s all day long with dr tires. N91 will make peak right where you want it. 4.30s and you will be set

Cam

The N91 is a great cam for the track, it was a pig down low on torque driving on the street. The cam likes to rev. Out of the three cams it was the fastest in my 331 coupe. But was the worst driving on the street. It lopes really hard and likes to rev. Below 3500 RPM it is a pig and that is where most street driving is done.
But it is fast and fun if you go more to the strip car with a little street. I ran some 6.20's in the 1/8th. with the N91 and 175 shot.

im running the n91 in my 347. it makes great power above 4k and pulls all the way to 7k power never falls off. it likes to buck below 2k but with a proper tune, some of that should be worked out. im still on a stock ecm. great cam, just make sure you have the valve train to support it. for a little better street manners i would go with the 282.
