Corral:

I am planning on mini-tubbing my 87 Notch... I have been told that I can run a 12" wide wheel w/ 6.5 backspacing and a 325/40/15 tire... I believe this makes the tire width about 14"... Is it possible to run even a wider tire? If so, what is the max wheel/tire combination and is there anything in particular that I have to do?

Thanks...

For a 12" wheel you will need 7"bs I have 10" with a 6.5bs with a 325/50/15 and I have about 1" clearance on the inside and the outside edge of the tire as I did not want any rubbing issues and I wanted to lower the rear over the tire I will take some pics of the car lowered tomorrow for you to see if you want .

Please do...

I was also planning on narrowing the rear end by 2" which should allow me to run the 12" wide wheel...

A little info on the rear set up .
1st pic is of the autoweldchassis shootout rear coil over kit which uses alden eagle shocks and a torsion bar anti roll bar.
2nd pic the rear was narrowed 2.25" each side and powder coated gloss black and a detroit locker 4.10 gears and 94 gt disk brakes ect .
3rd is a before I lowered the car pic about 1.5" or so .
4th is of the clearance I have on the inside from tire to frame about 1.75" or 2 good fingers . BUT I have a 7/16" spacer until I get some offset control arms from wolfracecraft as the tires only had about 1/4" space between the lower control arm and the tire to close for me . The rest of the pics are self explanatory

Very nice cars!!!!!

So, I am taking it that a 325 is about as large as I can run, and to do so I am going to have to narrow the rear end a couple of inches... Dang, my wife is looking at a Falcon that is running 19.5" slicks!!!!

Might have to start thinking about back halfing the car...

if you leave the frame rail where it is, then yes 325 is about as big as you can go in 15". You could go 335 ina 17". If you change the frame rail which makes it illegal for most classes, you can run a lot wider like 345 etc.

Well yeah...if your gonna move the frame rail...freakin cut them off....and backhalf the car with a true 4 link setup.

Still wanna see more underside pictures.

ChargedUp!...what is the backspacing of your wheels?

Well the mini tubs are fully installed and frame rails notched I have lots of room with the tire in there im going to run a Hoosier 29x10.5w tire for now with a 10 inch wheel with 6.5 backspace and the rearend is narrowed two inches per side when I upgrade my rear wheels and brakes I will be running a Hoosier 29.5x10.5w tire on a 12 inch wheel with 7 inches of backspace. I love the look it will have with the big 30 inch tire tucked up under the car. The upper tq boxes are fully welded up,lower tq boxes fully braced and welded up,and through the floor subframes complete! Next is the cage and mocking up the rear to install the anti roll bar and rear coil overs with upper and lower bracket's.
