I noticed both of these tires have the same rubber compound. The only difference that I see if the Street SS have rain grooves. Maybe the ET Street R has more of a contact patch?
Thoughts?

I had the SS that I was wanting to use as both a street / strip tire. This didnt work out well because they wear way too fast for street driving, and didnt hook as well as I liked, especially in the street. I didn't get enough time at the track with them to say they would or wouldnt work well there. The minimal time I did have with them I couldn't manage a good 60ft.

Now I have ET street Rs for the track and went Nitto 555R2 for street. The ET Street Rs hook at the track no issues, haven't tried the street.

The Nittos don't hook the greatest on the street, but not much worse than the the ET street SS. I've accepted that for street driving nothing will hook well from a dig and be an enjoyable handling tire. The tires need some heat in them and you need to make the suspension do work and weight transfer from a roll to plant them. Which means actually abruptly accelerating vs a soft roll into it - they hook better in the first case believe it or not.

The wear on the nittos has been much better, and will last much longer. Issue with the ET soft compound in the street is if you spin them, and you will, the rubber starts to feather and wont hook as good. This requires a burnout to clean off and back to hooking. 1500 miles out of this tire because of this, and your looking for a new pair.

As far as Bias ply, the standard radial sidewalls on the R are already pretty soft. If youre at the track sure get bias ply, otherwise it will sway alot.

I switched from 555r to et street ss a couple years ago, and I agree how they just wear too damn fast. Two sets of rear tires in a year was just too much for me to deal with.

I went back to the 555r2, and honestly they seem to work just as well as the mickeys. Suspension changes happened too, so I’m sure that’s a part of it.

Thanks guys. I looked up the Nitto sizes and I wish they had something closer in size to the M/T radials. My current 26" ET Streets are actually 26.4". The Nittos are less than 26".
I can't see running a 28" rear tire due to the 2.95 first gear and 3.55 rear gears. My tranny also has the lower numerically OD. As it is; the car isn't happy until 55mph in fifth gear.
Lots to think about. I'm currently on the wear bars and the tires probably have around 1000 miles on them since new in 2019.
