Low Compression Ratio Forged Dished Pistons with no valve reliefs - Will it fit?

I have a set of Forged Dished pistons with Yates Valve reliefs(15cc Dish). Based on my calculations these will give me an 8.4CR with 0.026in Deck clearance.

Do I have to worry about valve clearance if I decide to use Twisted Wedge heads?

I assume that the machine shop should be able to drill them if required.

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Yeah.. That goes without saying.. I am wondering if anyone has EVER ran an inline or twisted wedge head with Yates pistons.. I would have to spend thousand building the motor in HOPES of being able to run a standard head that I have, and THEN have to buy yates heads... Anyone else?

That why you would mock up the engine. No one can tell you if your pistons can be notched to your heads without seeing and measuring them. Mock up the motor, check clearance, mark valve locations, have pistons checked by a quality shop to see if they can be notched to your needs. There are too many variables to this. The Yates pistons are custom made. I can tell you that I have done it. I can not tell you that your pistons, cam head combo will work.

How did I do it? Mocked up the motor, Check piston to valve clearance, checked piston top for material thickness were I had to notch, notch 1 piston with Isky tool, take rotating assembly to my machine shop for piston notching and balancing.

I understand what you're saying, and mocking up and checking P/V clearance is ALWAYS done on my stuff. I did not know Yates pistons were ALL custom, they don't make off the shelf pistons? My point is that I can order some pistons cut for twisted wedge heads, but inline valve heads won't fit.. I can order inline valve heads, but twisted wedge won't fit (granted they both MIGHT but aren't designed to). I can order Yates pistons for yates heads.. And to me, the valve reliefs look similar to a twisted wedge.. That is what I am wondering. Are they SIMILAR enough that they might fit without touching, or even if I have to cut on them SOME it's fine.. I don't want to get them if they are naturally WAY off. My whole purpose is that LATER on I will be putting some Yates heads on the motor, but for a few years would like to run a milder head while it's in a 'street' car. Thanks for you efforts so far, it definately makes sense if ALL Yates pistons are custom.. Are they?

the pockets will be in a different place than where they are now so,
you will end up with even more loss of compression.

when using a yates head, you usually have to "mock up" what is needed for a piston because there are many different variations to a "yates' style head... the valves are not all in the same place.
a few of the yates compatible pistons have only one valve relief because the other valve opens into the bathtub dish.
when you want to put a twisted wedge head on top of this piston, you will never know untill you mock it up.
either way, if you have to cut a relief, you will loose even more compression.
